Default Rear seat release jammed

Hi,

I've had my 928 project about 2 months now. This is my first post here but I've already found the answers here to all sorts of issues I've had so thank you to everyone who's posted.

The problem I have is that I need to remove the rear seat backs but the catches to fold them will not move. How can I go about releasing them?

Thanks,
Nathaniel

Reach down and raise the catch manually.

One hand pulling up on the latch lever, other hand just below at the pivot, pushing on the catch (to release the pin). Flat blade screwdriver might help, don't force it.

try wiggling the seat back while pulling up on the release,
if it moves then release the lever and push the seat in the direction you desire then once you hear a click then lift the lever and continue moving the seat back, sometimes the latches get caught and then releasing the lever will unstick them

Thanks for the replies. I've had no luck with this though. Wiggling the seat and trying to pull up the lever doesn't work. I've tried getting a screwdriver in around the catch but can't get any leverage, it's a very restricted space there. Also, the catch looks quite rusty so I've squirted spray oil in there but still no luck.
The car stood for 4 years with the boot seal leaking so I guess the mechanism has rusted up. The trouble is, unless I can release it I can't do anything to fix it...

I had this happen to one seat, I actually had to pry the catch up (stuck folded down).
After moving it up once, it removed enough junk off the material to actually work....

Mine sometimes won't release, too. But I just keep wiggling the lever, and it usually pops free. Not sure what the problem is with it.

Mine was the same. I had to go after it with a pry bar on the bottom seat catch. It took a lot! of force and I was worried I would break something but it freed up and has been fine ever since.

One of my rear seats refused to unlatch: it was not jammed as the release lever would move freely but the latches would not move. It turned out that both shoulder bolts that the release mechanism pivots on had unscrewed from the T-nuts of the seat back and fallen out.

Fixing this simple problem was the usual involved process: remove the center surround of the rear A/C; remove the seat bolts (one of which is inaccessible with the surround in place...); remove the carpet from the seat back; remove the uncounted staples that hold the leather upholstery in place; take thirty seconds to put the bolts back in with some Loctite; and spend many more hours cleaning everything, treating the leather, stapling, and reassembling all of it.

Good luck.
