Outside Air Temp Sensor & Wiring Question
The '85 I'm resurrecting had previous nose work by a "body shop" sometime in it's life. My question is whether it should have a OATS in the alternator hose? Everything I see here says yes, if so it's AWOL, along with the alternator hose. That brings me to where the heck is the wiring for it supposed to be? The only unaccounted for wire (I think) in that area is what appears to be an original single yellow wire in it's own protective insulator running down the top left of the inner fender, ending around the left headlight.
But everything in the wiring diagrams, etc. says I should see two wire that run to a connector for the OATS in that area.
Any assistance would be appreciated, along with a source for perhaps a used OATS pipe and sensor.... thanks

I believe you should have a temperature sensor; I think the arrangement is pretty much the same as on my '90 S4.
See one of my posts from about a year ago that shows a bunch of this stuff.
Here are the relevant parts for your '85; click the diagram for more information:

Yes there should be a black round connector to plug the OATS into.
without the outside temp sensor you will get full hot air in the heat setting and will not be able to turn the temp down, the A/C will still work when set to cold.
edit: yep thats it, good pic

Look at the bottom of the inner left front fender panel, forward of the alternator, below and outside of the power steering pump, for the connector.
