Which battery to buy?

Which battery to buy?
Well it seems like it's time for a new battery for my '89 S4. I was just wondering if anyone had a brand they highly recommend (or one I need to stay away from). I have a Sears Die Hard in there now. I can't seem to get more than 3 or 4 yrs out of a battery in the 928, but they also seem to do better with a fresh battery. Thanks.

Sounds pretty typical on battery life. I use Autozone Duralast 48-DL, however I have to disconnect the ground strap if I'm not driving for a while. Have some type of drain that I have not had time to chase down....
However, my car is only a weekend car and that's every other weekend at best....

My Die Hard is 6 years old and going strong. I use a trickle charge during the 'off season'. Lately, it's been more off than on.
I think batteries are batteries, most of the come from the same factories. They usually come in cheap, medium, and expensive... and last/perform roughly the same.
I like Sears because of their no hassle swap if it fails early, plus they have lots of locations, are open on Sundays, and have cool tools to look out while you are waiting.
Bottom line, I think it’s a matter of convenience and pricing over brand name.

Interstate give us batteries for the dragsters as long as we put a sticker on the car.
Went to get one in the 928 one day. Manager goes how cool is that! After giving him a once over of the car he spied the continental battery in the trunk.... He immediately put an interstate in gratis YMMV but its always worth a shot!

I've had good luck with the Optima Red Top (although not a direct drop-in like the Duralast that it replaced)

the napa battery has done me well and my car sits a lot (no comments needed richmonders) and when it is time to start it, it keeps on spinning til it gets it going.. lots of amps for the money

I just bought this Bosch at of all places PepBoys:

The thing is a huge monster! Just fits in the battery bay of my '81. If you're in the SF Bay area the circular has an ad for $10 off plus a $20 mail in rebate which will put my outlay at about $85. Here's the ad linky...

Never tried a Bosch before, but it's got a 36 mo replacement deal so we'll see.

My 83 has had an Interstate in it for 5 years. The 81 came with a NAPA that weighs 51 lbs. Its dead, so prob go with another Interstate for it when I get the tranny/Weissach back in it.

Yellow Top Optima is working excellent for me. Took the opportunity to upgrade the battery cable to 1/0 welding grade copper at the same time. A large improvement in overall electrical capability throughout the car. Beside cleaning more grounds of course!

Duralast life has been less than good for me. Next stop will be a NAPA or Interstate.
