Went to school down there at St. Mary's Univ. then lived there after graduating for 3 yrs. So after living there for 7 yrs I have to say I was so glad to leave. It is an awesome city to visit, but to live there is not a place I would recommend. The food is great though. I would love to have a po'boy from Bill Millers BBQ or stop at Jim's for a nice burger. However, you only have 2 seasons there...hot and very hot and if you don't have the money to buy sod and keep it watered then you will have to live with crabgrass and weeds.(beautiful oaks though) Also watch out for foundation damage if you are looking at houses. The clay is awful there. Traffic can be a you know what, but what's new. The riverwalk is nice, but of course it is one of those things that gets old if you live there. Outside of the Spurs not much in the way of sports. Theatre is great. Love the Majestic theater. Stay away from the South side and gangs. I taught my first years were taught at Dwight M.S. so I sorta heard all sorts of stories from my students. This past yr. my buddy left that area to move to the North side. All good now.

Of course, if you live in a great area you will be happy there. I am just giving you my perspective from living there for 7 yrs. Just keep the A/C working and enjoy the food.

Enjoy your time there.

I lived out there in '06-08. The people are friendly, but very loyal to the Republic of Texas (don't screw with Texas). Excellent Hill Country roads to drive. Get mixed up with Roger and the boys up in Dallas area. They have a Marble Falls week-end in early November that is a must do event. If you need work done to the Beast, Jones Autowerks is very good. Mexican Food is the best. Your some 70 miles from Austin, which can be a fun week-end jaunt. Go 30 mile West on I-10, the speed limit goes to 80 mph. Go East on I-10 to Buckey's (exit 632) for one of the best CAr/Truck stops arouund. Gas is realitively cheap and it's one of the best bang for the buck real eatate markets around. The wife still holds it against me that I dragged her out of there.

As long as you can put up with the Summer heat, you'll love it.

I used to work on Alamo Plaza. SA's a great town. Interesting, too. Mexican, Mexican-American, Old South, Western cattle town, military and Ancien Regime all muddled up. Wait 'til you get the Fiesta Duchesses insert to the Express News.

I mean no offense, but that's an interesting claim about Granddadand and a neat distinction. How do you know? Is it in one of the women's accounts? One of the Mexican ones?

May he rest in peace, though I think I'd have preferred to be a survivor. On to San Jacinto!

Well, I am looking forward to the move out of the El Paso wasteland and hooking up with you fellow 928'ers. Do you GTG'ers do a fun run on the second Saturday? That fun-run in Marble Falls last November was great, and the roads themselves were fantastic. One thing I gotta say about Texas, is that the roads are well-constructed for the most part.

And Randy, that IS a nice fish! I have never caught a tuna, I've heard they are great fighters.

Were you able to get that awkward tunafish bloodstain out of your hard core jorts?

Make sure and look us up when we get here. We can all meet up for a few beers and make a road trip to Austin.
