Holy pineapple upside down cake,,, Batman! That is a really cool engine (well maybe I should say hot)!

Not to nit pick and I don't know if this is true, but I've 'heard' you can crack a windshield if you jack one side without a cross brace.

If my memory serves me correctly...that SC system/engine wasn't always upside down......

Its a sweet car for sure............................. but complicated, like all custom 928's are...... I don't know if it ever ran hard for any length of time.....possibly only a dyno run before the project got placed on the back burner by its prior owner

So very cool. But it looks like someone took a huge bite and gave up before all the chewing was through. Now its up to you to do all that chewing, probably with little history of what has been tried and what the issues are. I think that others are right and you are gonna want to back up and then take baby steps back in, one thing at a time. I think it is too clean to have ever run much.

Yes very cool project
Have other things on my mind at the moment broom stick works fine until I can get to the supply store
Worked on the car all day till 10 PM modified the bridge and its better but not fixed.

More to come plan on going to the track tomorow if I can fix the brake issue.

Just tierd and need to get some sleep .

Indy practice Friday am. Lots to do between now and then

Rob
I bent the widow at the last race. Front frame rail took a hit. Repairable but will take more time than I have at the moment. Any ways the only thing better than a 928 is 3

wow Sean, neat stuff, seems like you could totally use a guy that knows his way around a race car to work on them full time huh?

>DR< If my memory serves me correctly...that SC system/engine wasn't always upside down......

Back in the late 80's I was at a shop in Santa Ana CA, (Pantera Specialties)
run by Lance Nist -- they had that upside down setup on a OB motor
running on a dyno. It had an Electromotive tec 2 eng/mgt running it.

I always wondered what happened to that project ..

Cool project, would be awesome if you could get the cooling issue sorted. Wasn't there someone that was designing a manifold on here that was similar to that, with the twin screw mounted upside down?

Well, I would seriously consider just removing the custom bridge, installing new inlet/outlets with AN fittings, and then plumbing the stat housing remotely. EMP made a very interesting electronic thermostat years ago, which you can run across on ebay and is still available through summit and some other sources called the AECS. Its not a cheap part, but could be less expensive than machining a 3-way stat housing. Another option is that Colin (Lizard) has posted in the past that the BWM 318 thermostat is a remote 3-way design. I have a couple here, but not sure what the total flow is through those units, a part number for one of many temp settings is 11-53-9-055-587-A.

Please post more information as available. This is a very interesting build.

Thanks
Hans

Perhaps you need to restrict the flow to the cool side to equalize the flow to both sides also might connect the rear head passages( the two plates one where the heater hose attaches) to balance the flow somewhat.
Sounds like you are making some progress on what has been a problem since it was built.

They changed to a centrifugal, less work, and sent me the manifold.

Things are comming along. I removed the bridge and drilled and tapped the drivers side to accept a 3/4" Npt fitting then fabbed up a tee into the return rad hose. also added some water wetter and the motor seemed to stabalize at about 200 DegF. So decided to road test the beast. Road test went well with no overheating. We ran down the highway about 30 miles and stopped at every off ramp to check temp which were all fine.

Turned around and came back to my shop and got caught in construction traffic for about 15 mins and she spewed just as I pulled into the shop. so not fixed but improving.

The thing is just down right mean and nasty. Should be fun when I get it sorted.

That sounds like an airflow issue....not a water flow. The radiat0or is somewhat blocked off by the coolers...what is moving the air ???
