I love it.

I would have Paul make some door inserts that match the pattern, would tie them in and look original.

The seats really don't look completely out of place, as they (though replicas) came on euro GT3s in the last decade. Some Porsches came with these seats.

They would be more out of place in, say, an automatic with original soft suspension that IS a cruising car at this point. To me the seats go well with how my car drives with rigid suspension and all the other things that I've done. I would be more than happy to spend all day in the saddle in these seats. You won't hear me complaining looking for more seat padding.

Thanks for your opinion. Like I said, now the information is out there that these things drop right in to a 928 if someone was thinking about it, and the price is pretty reasonable as compared to re-covering some tired seats or buying new ones.

My car to me is more of a modern, GT3 style updated version of a 928. But still a 928. I like what the GT3RS is to the 911, still drivable but much more fun and connected to the road.

That was the exact impression I got from the fixed back Sparco that I installed, along with the smaller diameter, deeper dish, 350mm aftermarket steering wheel.

I would not have believed the difference in feel from the smaller diameter steering wheel unless I tried it myself. The difference is like night and day. I love it.

For my street only, basically stock S4, I'm not crazy about the look, so will probably revert back to stock seat and steering wheel at some point. But if I was modding my car for performance purposes, I would have no hesitation what-so-ever with modding the interior to my tastes.

My other line of thinking is to some day modify the stock seat to sport seat specs, but somehow lower it as much as possible. I'd also like a stock "look" steering wheel that was a smaller diameter, 350mm would do fine. Right now just dreaming about this stuff.

Those are really nice. The upholstery is much nicer than a typical race seat and they have everything you want in a modern performance/track seat.
Great job!

..that didnt come out right.

I meant "original what..." in the way you answered it. Its going to look more like the orignal thought behind the XYZ car/design/etc.

And I take offense.

My shocks are NOT soft.

I doubt they have any oil in them at all, actually.

That's an innovative & tasteful mod and looks great imo. Also agree that with matching door inserts and red 9-2-8 door sill lettering it would look really tight. good stuff.

I like them, stitching and all. I bet they really hold you more secure than any 928 sport seat. Likes like a great fit for driving the car hard. Folks, if you've never driven a car hard that had a good set of track or racing seats with 5 point harnesses, then you have not driven a car hard. The proper seat really makes the final connection between driver and car, and helps get the last little bit out of the car (without loss of control). Seats like these help you feel every aspect of what the car is doing under you and keep you squarely behind the wheel which is important for hand positioning. As far as original, they are just seats that he bolted in, which means they can be unbolted just as easy. A true driving enthusiast is always searching for the next improvement for his car.

My old seats were not true 928 seats anyway, so no great loss there. A doubter would have to drive the car with these new seats. You sit IN them, and a little lower than regular seats. With the 5 points snug you are locked in place. This is fun for me and does seem to complete the car in some way.
Afshin's new Boxster comes with the new GT2 seats that are similar, and I saw 2new GT2RS's recently and sat in one... Pretty cool stuff.

If you ever really approach the handling limits of a 928 you quickly understand how totally inadequate street stock seats are. And what a HUGE difference a proper restraint system makes as well. The steering wheel becomes just that.....rather than something you cling to to keep your body somewhat stable...
I too think some red pattern on the door inserts would add to the color coordination and any local shop could EASILY do that. Maybe the cassette holder lid as well And a red shift boot or at least red stiching...

FWIW, I don't think anyone really had a problem with more functional track seats. Just the overall appearance of them in the car and the nature of a "GT" car vs a "sports" or "Track" car.

I like the seats. Personally, I think they just look a touch out of place. Things like matching the door bits would certainly help this, but not totally cure it IMO. I'm having a strange love/hate thing with the big round top of the seat. On one hand I think it flows with the big round butt of the 928. On the other hand it feels totally out of place in the car just based on era.

The factory seats have a certain shape, profile etc that fits not only the era of the car but the other design elements. too. (like they match the rear seats, etc) Kinda like having that one odd piece of furniture in your living room that does not match anything else.

Does this car have the upper back seats still in it? Matching the rear seats to the front (or removing them) would help too.

Any pictures for how the seats look from a distance. (through the front and rear windows?) That might help too.

I see the 928 as a SPORTS CAR which also happens to be somewhat comfortable never quite got my arms around the GranTourismo thing. Really hard to define what a sports car IS without using examples ....... maybe "looks like fun" would suffice.

Drive a 951 or 911 from the same vintage and the difference between GT and Sports car is very obvious.

I DO see the 928 as a "sports car". It is not a small, lightweight sports car, but the build quality and engineering is all there with excellent suspension, design, balance, feel, cockpit ergonomics, brakes, and good power. Sure, 320hp is not where cars are today, but many other cars are a lot heavier than the 3500 lbs of a street 928. Many don't have the 4 piston Brembo brakes, double A arm front suspension, height adjustable coilovers, and adjustable front camber either. Our 928s are very capable at speed, they just don't feel nervous and twitchy (like a vintage 911) so many people have thought it wasn't a sports car.
Just because you could drive the 928 all day and not be worn out is not proof that it isn't a sports car; it's proof that it is a really a great car. Time has passed us by somewhat, but there isn't a better designed car out there until you look at cars that cost $250K+.

Finally got around to taking some more pics, these are a lot more comfortable than you would think. They are not coming out any time soon...
You can see the top of the seats in the last pic.
