Default Radiator removal - bolts stuck

Hi
the bolts that hold the radiator down don't come out all the way. The cutout on the front wing doesn't line up correctly. I might be able to lever the rubber mount out of the way but would rather not on the plastic side tanks. I'll see if I have enough wriggle room to remove the bottom rubber mounts.
Failing all that - take wings off?

Reason I am digging 'round there is that the oil cooler took hit and got bent back with the PO and I suspect the lower radiator mounts are affected as well.

Photos show the upper radiator mounts. Last one the sad oil cooler.

Mine don't line up too well. But much better than that! Also my passenger side is stripped.

Looks like the damage to the lower core support has tweeked the frame enough that things no longer line up....

To break these bolts loose,
put a rag folded a few times over the upper support grab with a set of channel locks,
with the other hand put your allen socket and ratchet in the bolt and turn while holding the support from bending sideways.

NOTE when fitting the ratchet work it so its not over the fender if it flys off you dont want to damage the paint ,
fit a towel over the fender adjacent to the bolt.

NOTE spray the bolts down first with PB blaster let soak for a day.
When refitting the bolts put anti seize on them

That did't come aross right

The bolt does turn, it just doesn't clear the front wing. The cutout and the bolt don't line up so the bolt head binds.

More later I am off to the garage.

OK then, take the bolt loose a thread or two,
then put the allen driver into the bolt,
strike the allen driver a few times with a hammer,
this will drive down the fastener and allow the top support to move,
then the bolt can be unscrewed

Have you sourced a oil cooler?? I found supplier in UK, Ricketts Radiators, Swansea when I bought mine recently. Original Porsche part stamped with PET number. IIRC £160. Cheaper than US price I think...a first!!!!!

Cheers Steve, you keep coming up with the goods!
Will phone them tomorrow.

I expect your Pirtek powersteering hose is doing well.

Radiator is out, used Mrmerlin's way. Two whacks with a hammer - bolt has room to turn out.

when refitting the radiator make sure the lower rubbers fit into the cut outs in the radiator ....
or the top supports will be bent when you tighten them

They are very good at Ricketts rads (no affiliation). I also had a leak in main radiator end cap. They removed and resealed that. Yes Pirtek hose is good, no difference to steering without restrictor in place.

cooler arrived, O rings included. Only moderate inflation on price. Thanks again for pointing Ricketts out Steve.
