When it dose not start you need to verify that it has spark.
Throw a spark tester in the car so that you can do that the next time it dose not start.
This way you can elliminate the electrical to the ignition.
This is also when a fuel pressure gauge on the rail comes in handy so that you can see if you have pressure.
good luck you'll find it.
Brad
Thanks..I definetly have spark... yes a gauge on the rail system would be a nice addition..
Well this is just baffliing..My no start.. Still fires fine when cold right up....run it no problem until I turn it off...it will fire right back up if I restart it after shutting it off, but if I wait 10 15mins it will only crank over but not fire...If I wait an hour or more it will fire up first crank just fine but not if I dont give it the full hour other wise it will just crank..
.. Ok relay's have been put in...new fuel pump, filter, strainer and fuel regulator all Brand NEW! Done a pressure test on the dampers 1 & 2 right up there and holding no problem...tested the ohms on the temp sensor just fine..no gas leaks anywhere...Has anyone had this problem?? I am at my wits end with...I appreciate any and all suggestions.. I just want to go out and be able to drive someplace shut it off and come out 10 20 later and drive off like I've been doing the last 3 seasons... Oh yes...tank drained and all new high test gas..nothin olderr than a weeek in it..
Assuming this is the 86, Get a can of aerosol freezer from radio shack - it is used to look for heat related electrical failures. Wait the 15 or so minutes it takes for the failure to occur, then spray the final stage transistor packs up front on the apron adjacent to the drivers side headlight ( they have a plastic cover over them and two cable runs to them) and try again. They make be getting heat soaked when you turn off, and will not work again until they hit the right temp. If this is not the problem, use the freezer spray on the temp II and other sensors, and see which works. Repeat several times to verify. If it is the final stages, I suspect the heat conducting grease to teh heat sinks on the final stages has dried out and they are getting way to hot.
Next time it acts up, press the gas pedal down and hold it to the floor while turning the engine over. See if it starts then. If you've already tried that, I'm going to assume that it didn't produce a different result.

Thanks Neil, I will get some and give that a try....
We had an 85 with a MAF circuit that would fail when hot and shut the car down.
Rich Andrade found it after I got frustrated and boxed-up the brains and MAF and sent it all to him. Not saying its your problem, per se, but it can happen.

Hey Brad, Thanks ..yes it has had spark from the start..no problem there.
