Steam powered 928
Hi guys,
Need a little advice!
928 S4 Auto
Overtaking a car fairly quickly last weekend and suddenly my car turned into a steam car with a huge blast of white steam coming out the back!
Not good!
I pulled over and let it cool.
When I opened the bonnet it looked likt the steam was coming out on the driver side (RHD) towards the back of the engine close to the pedal box.
luckily when it cooled the engine still ran sweetly on a quick start and idle. Looks Like I might have been lucky but not sure yet !
Anyone had this before and know if it is :
Heater hose?
Head gasket?
Cracked block?
Coolant drain?
Core plug?
Havent had chance to look yet but wonder if anyone has advice?

Yep - try removing the air filter, and lower air filter box, so you can see the valve. It could be a leaking valve, but my guess would be the short hose that connects the valve to the engine.
Not a big repair - you can do this yourself easily.

Plan on changing ALL the heater hoses including those to the coolant tank and get a new heater valve while you are in there.....those hoses get "overlooked "but are all long overdue for being changed. What makes a new car reliable ? they have all new hoses
Tires are only "safe" for six years because rubber is unstable and breaks down over time so 20 plus year old rubber hoses.....
note that the short hose to the heater valve is stepped bigger on one end than the other also if yours is an early S-4 the fitting on the head can fail where the pipe corrodes loose. There is an updated part.....
Always best to post the year of your car.

I wholeheartedly agree with Jim on replacing all rubber hoses, if it hasn't been done, yet. Otherwise you might fix one weak spot, and find another one go 'kaboom' on you.
I did it as preventive maintenance when my car was little over 15 years old. And I learned that it wasn't clear from the outside how bad some of these hoses had become.
