Yeh I looked into getting a kit too and they are unbelievably expensive (not like anything is cheap to do with this car) but I have way too many other things that I need to do before I can invest in Xenon lights. However, once I do upgrade to the Xenon's I am definately getting me some LEDs!
I was thinking of getting the thicker ones but I may reconsider, you did a really neat job! The thicker ones may be a little too big to fit properly which will cause it to look cheap and tacky...

They also have significantly different body shapes and lighting systems.

Would the side "blade" of an R8 look good on a 928, or the headlights from a 458 Italia? Nope.

I like the concept, just don't see it looking like anything but an obvious aftermarket ad-on.

If you are able to integrate the LED strip inside the fog light, maybe that would look a bit OEM.

Thanks Phil. I think the thicker ones might be too bright, too, in addition to being more obvious than mine.

I might try some whiter bulbs before going the HID route. The car needs paint before it needs more lighting. This was a fun cheap experiment to tide me over before the real body work begins. Actually, there's plenty of mechanical work to do, too!

Just my opinion.
Audi's today look cheezeball with the led brows.
I'm surprised the Germans being conservative at one time have fallen for gimmacks.

Light tubes like those used on the current CTS might look sharp, avoids the "Christmas Lights" look of individual LEDs. Not sure where you could get those though...

Since the 928 Specialists kit is gone, does anyone know where to get good quality HID lighting for the 928?

I'm all for "restomod" type projects. But they have to be done to "update" a car in a nice way, not change the character of it to something else. All IMO of course.

The LED daytime lights look really cool on the cars they were intended for. I just don't think they match the look and feel of the 928.

Using high output LED to light the actual fog lights and wire them as daytime running lights, to me, seems to fit the overall feel of the car much better. "Updating" technology rather than changing it in a way that is not consistent with the car.

LOVE THE LED idea and that you are out there trying new stuff. Not a fan of this particular execution of it on a 928.

There's another thread on this right now; Dave is contacting the supplier he used to see what he can do for us in terms of setting up a group buy that we do on our own. (one of us, probably me, would need to run the buy).

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ied-these.html

There's also a Rennlist sponsor, Dash Z, selling lighting kits for 928s, but as far as I can tell no one has tried them out.

Your mom raised you well. I agree with all of the above, and that this is somewhat a matter of taste. Some folks don't like the look (indeed, for some, they don't like it on any car), while others do. I'm in the "others" camp, but I also want to do it properly, and with maximum functionality. I am also still hoping to figure out a way to run these or something similar from inside the lens. This was an extremely cheap and easy experiment intended as a launching point.

These strips would also function well inside the car, such as to illuminate the footwells or the ground just outside the door when opened, if so desired.

I sat in KITT at Universal Studios when I was 8 years old. It said "Hello, Michael." Thought that was about the coolest thing ever at the time. So perhaps that explains why I like my Christmas lights so much. Meh, to each his own.
