Default 928 "81 pour pickup at idle

Hi,

My 928 "81 with a single ingnition coil (L-jtronic?) starts and runs great. Only when I push the throttle hard at idle it runs bad. When I push the throttle slow it runs great!
I started at cleaning the ground points but the WSM has other ground points then I have..

Anybody any suggestions?

Thanks

Do you have CIS k-jet? or electric injectors L-jet? single coil won't determine either way.

1. Check that you don't have a light show in the dark from the ignition leads ... ignition leads can break down under load.

2. Check condition of distributor cap, rotor, plugs and green wire .... any of these in poor condition could give that symptom.

3. Check distributor advance as per WSM ... retarded can give poor throttle response.

4. Check for obvious vacuum leaks.

It could be lots of other things, including fuel/metering, but ruling out a couple of areas for a start will help narrow it down.

How did the problem develop? ... over time or sudden? ... any other symptoms?

Does it backfire through the intake when you push the throttle hard at low rpm? If so, it is running lean.

Frozen mechanical advance in distributor can do this too. Does problem go away when its fully warmed up?
Do you have access tp a set of gauges for CIS?

Hi all,

I found some time to start with my 928 again!
To Glenn Evans, it sounds maybe like backfire. I'm not sure. How can I check if the runs to lean?
I bought the car with a not running engine. Its was standing voor almost 2 years now. It's almost ready only the thing with the response on idle..

Regards,
And thanks for the reply

You need to methodically check all the things mentioned so far and let us know the results, give some answers, and provide more information on what motor/fuel system (CIS?) you have, so we can give you informed opinions. To be able to narrow down the likely problem you need to be able to start ruling out some possibilities.

I'm guessing advance/distributor, but without some more information that's all it is ... a guess.

Where are you from?

I've just checked your posts in three threads you've started so far .... you asked for info on an 89S4 first ... then a 944S ... now an 81 .. and you're not answering questions ... and you didn't in previous threads.

I'm done here.

Hi Dave 928 S,

I'm a Porsche lover and I have several 928's and a 944. I have sometimes been a little ill so I don't always have the oppertunity to answer all the questions. I can on this moment spend a little time because its getting better lately. I hope that is no problem.
