I'm sure this has been said 1000 times before, but I can't believe that Porsche took the time to develop an electronically controlled limited slip but couldn't be bothered to add keyless entry to cars they were making in the 1990's.
Anyway, my S4 has a Typhoon aftermarket alarm with keyless entry - it works pretty well, and I added remote hatch release to it with a relay and some wiring. I would like to add keyless entry to the GTS, but I don't think I want to add a second alarm system. Any recommendations on one that will play nicely with the stock system? Support for things like the close-windows-and-sunroof feature would be a big plus too.
I am always afraid that the installers will screw something up... If I were not an EE and capable of doing the work myself I wouldn't even consider doing something like this... The horror stories abound about folks having stuff like this (and sometimes just a "simple" stereo install) and the car never works right electrically again...

I'm not an EE, though I got a lot of electrical engineering as a CmpE major. I also worked as an electronics bench tech for years doing component level repair on lots of different computer equipment and repaired F15 black boxes (actually, most of them are grey) in the Air Force. I would definitely be doing this work myself.
If I were an EE, I'd get the alarm box and related components from a 993/996 with factory remote-locking and mate it to the 928's electrical system. The 993/996 remote key heads will accept a 928 key blade, so it's just an electrical project to incorporate the rest of the system. My guess is that Porsche continued to use a conceptually-similar design (switches on the doors, hood, trunk, momentary ground to the lock motors, etc.) in the 993/996 systems.

I am with Tom, Sterling and Greg, that would be a great deal as the stuff was already vetted and verified by Porsche... Aftermarket stuff is a no-go for me on things of this nature w/ a 928 anyway.
Sounds like you have all the skills you need to make this happen and make it happen correctly! Good luck and keep us posted!
Not to swerve the thread, but some of this remote entry retrofit has been scoped by Theo (in Holland) at http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...6/MyTip678.htm. There may be some good ideas there, perhaps info that can be adapted to make the e-Bay Porsche KES retrofit work. I kind of agree that the no-name remote fob has a cheesy-kind-of-feel compared with branded components - but won't our key hands be in our pocket when we trip the lock, for added effect?
For what its worth I think you are trying to reinvent the wheel..
My Clifford 650 alarm system does the following in conjunction with Hans/Pauls switch system...
Remote locking/unlocking WITH autoclose on both windows and sunroof
Remote boot release
Remote starting
One touch open/close with partial open/close
All open (windows/sunroof)
All close (windows/sunroof)
PA system
Voice warnings on remote locking, remote start, remote unlocking
And all the normal alarm functions...including Anti-Hijack
As my 928 alarm system NEVER worked it made sense to fit that system as my brothers 928 genuine alarm system was replaced by H&P for a new original one and it cost £700
Because the Clifford 650 uses the same modules as Hans/Pauls system it was very easy to add their switch system to the alarm.. therefore making everything remote...
Called my local Car Toys. When I explained what I wanted for the remote window/sunroof close functionality, they also said that I would need a $350+ Clifford, plus installation, etc.
After a bit of searching around I found the Avital 4103LX, which is marketed as a remote start system, but will also do KRE and has a "Comfort Close" feature that sounds exactly like what's needed to tie into the stock GTS system.
$54 and qualifies for Prime shipping from Amazon. My S4's alarm system is by Avital, and I'm happy with that one, so I'll let you all know how this works out.

I'll be interested to hear the outcome .. sounds good.
