FOR SURE it is the X-pipe and cats that make the RMB car a bit loud. Go back to stock and you will be very happy...that or remove the X-pipe, but that part actually does help HP/TQ the RMB, not so much!

I inherited an RMB with straight pipes from the cats back - starting up and high revs sounded like a freakin' race car, but the drone was terrible at cruising speeds. I got a used set of stock intermediate resonators (on here) and reinstalled between the cats and the RMB - perfect. Sounds more like a Porsche should, but still has that V8 growl when you push down the fast peddle

I took mine off after a month, years ago, because of the loud noises and the drone too.....only the loud noise was from my ex-wife bitching about getting woke up at 4:00 in the morning when I got home.

RMB alone = nice sound, not too loud or annoying. RMB + X-pipe + any exhaust after MY88 = very annoying sound. So, I understand why you feel the RMB has to go. X-pipe + stock rear muffler = very quiet.
I'm running RMB + X-pipe + 87-88 [correction 87; not 87-88] resonator section. It still has a slight resonant drone at 2200 RPM that I wish wasn't there, sounds good otherwise and is a vast improvement over the annoying sound when I had my 89 resonators. Stock rear muffler with X-pipe was boringly quiet.

Bill, I thought the '88 resonators were the same as the '89 and that it was '87 and '90 to '95 that were the same... Did I miss that? I know my '88 sounds AWESOME w/ RMB and that my '92 is FAR to quiet w/ just the RMB...but it would probably be about right w/ an X-pipe! Someday I will try that!

The RMB added to a stock exhaust system sounds awesome.
But yeah, if you have an x-pipe, or race cats, or headers, it won't sound as good.
I do recommend trying a baffled tip. Really helps with drone issues.

The drone at certain rpms with modified exhaust really sounds like it comes from under the car and NOT from the tailpipe so I am not sure that it is the RMB in this case.

Right, the drone is X-pipe. If you run a muffler, you don't hear the drone or much of anything else for that matter. X-pipe + RMB on S4+, drone is apparent, but reduced with any cat-back that has largeer (87) resonators.

My GTS has the same setup as yours...

Granted I think it is a little loud for my tastes, but it's not THAT loud. Tried the Stock muffler back on, and it was WAY too quiet. I suspect replacing the resonators with some sort of small mufflers (not Flowmaster) would quiet it down without killing it. But honestly, it isn't loud enough for me to throw any money at the volume level.
