Default Interior Carpet Poll Sliverknit, German Velour, Other?

I am thinking about carpet options for my cars. I have the stock Sliverknit but I don't like the way it has faded and looks slightly matted. So, I am asking for advice over other carpet materials or recommendations as to why I should remain with Sliverknit.

Upholsterers prefer Sliverknit because it is lighter/thinner and therefore easier to form around curves and tight places.

Please vote your preference and post comments relative to your experiences.

Thanks so much,
Dan

Dan, since you are changing it out and willing to go non-factory anyway, I say put in the best stuff you can find! The cars (both of them) are SO AMAZING that anything less would be criminal!

I just did the velour from Robert Budd... DEFINITELY DO THE VELOUR!

Keep in mind, it is a good HARD weekend project to remove and install, realistacly two weekends.

Velour is NOT any harder to install than silverknit. Glad to provide tips and tricks either way..

What passes for sliverknit today does not come close to the original stuff in my euro. Not as tall or dense or soft.

I was searching for the best stuff you could possibly get and found it in England, if i remember right, stuff that goes in Rolls I think (at least according to their write-up). Was a few years back. But that is stuff I will use when I get around to it. Why not get the best.

maybe even this stuff - http://www.williammarstonltd.co.uk/i...WOOL-NYLON.png

You would have to compare samples in your hand. I always check the carpet when I go into new car dealers, not too impressed with most.

Unborn yak fur, best there is. Something conventional from Rob Budd might be easier to get though.

Cowboy,

First off, I can't believe you are consider anything other than full bore badd arss carpet on either one of your 928s!!

With that being said, I'm sure attached carpet comes in a color to suit you if orange doesnt!!

German velour from Rob Budd was excellent for my 82. Vast improvement on the factory original and fitted just fine. A little bit more difficult to fit to curves but worth it.

Wilton wool perhaps?

If the color I wanted was available in a domestic fiber.... I would pick that one. My shoes won't know the difference, but my wallet will.

Robert sent me samples of basic replacement material and Sliverknit to compare. The Sliverknit is my choice. It is thicker and looks like it will be more of a challenge to install but just looks richer and will have better sound deadening. It is just a little lighter weight than the exist stock Sliverknit.

The answer is whatever carpet supplier can provide a carpet set that matches Turquoise metallic.

I installed the mercedes velour. Very pleased.

Can't speak to other optional materials though.

Yes Wilton Wool, it's on that 1st link I gave from a place in Washington State. The other is some nice looking stuff from England. And Budd's German Velour.

You would have to get samples of all in the same color and compare. Your feet won't know the difference, but you will. Life is short and filled with hassle's. Driving these is an escape, pure enjoyment, why not if you can swing it, make it the best possible experience, the carpet, the leather, the steering wheel, and an after-market exhaust. Get the most out of it.
