Default muffler fitting? now phase II needed

being on a budget, decided to start the process of replacing the pumpkin and resonator on my 84.

exhaust was solid, but the pumkin's baffles must be rusted away, as it basically sounded like an empty garbage can was connected to my exhaust and loud.

got a nice, cheap stainless rear muffler on ebay. sounds good but too loud.

next step, replace the resonator. I have been looking and looking, measuring and measuring.

now down to a couple options. looking for ideas before I proceed.

clearly I can fit a 4" diamater, 14" long magnaflow (#10416) where the resonator is. only concern is if it will still be too loud for me. a 5" diamater magnaflow (12866) would fit, but a bit tighter. then there is the 5X8 offset (14211).

thoughts or suggestions for alternatives.

just cant afford the borla or similar cat back at $700 range. so far only $75 invested.

PS. plan to get a few nice band clamps to replace the ugly U clamps.

tight fit for that resonator. Can you cut in a small muffler into your y-pipe?

The single exhaust is always loud.

Consider also 17" 14375. I have a pair of them on a dual exhaust setup for an 84.

But I suspect you might want more muffling than either of the magnaflow choices.
