Owner is out of town a lot.
Guy is spending time talking (sure) to the wife while the guy is out of town a lot.
Owner comes home to find his car is gone and the wife is out of town a lot.

To the OP: I own a GTS and an '89 S4. I love them and they drive great, but I have a kind of emotional attachment to the Stepson (my '84 ROW AT) It is as awesome a car to drive as the others, but it has certain traits that the others do not have. At about 4K RPM, it lights up like someone put a firecracker under its tail and the power band extends like that all the way to redline. It is fun fun fun. Go for it. Expect to spend $3-6K in this market.

I really enjoy my 84 us auto...!
I paid 3,200 three years ago, but it had an inoperable 4th gear. I put another 500 or so into alternator, battery, tires, etc, plus 1,500 for a trans rebuild. So in three years of ownership ive really paid $5,300...
