Last year a low mileage 95 GTS Five speed sold for $106,000. Never buy a 928 if you just want a Porsche.
+928

Ali nailed it - someone looking for a "Porsche" won't be the buyer of this car. Heck, some 911 buyers don't even view the 928 as a Porsche for cryin' out loud. And I guarantee you Willhoit has plenty of comps north of $48K.

David - Glad to hear things look promising regarding your wife's health. If you don't have that, you don't have anything. Good luck with the sale, and I have a feeling this won't be your last 928.

That's what this car deserves, the perfect buyer. Most here know the special niche of a GTS 5-spd within the 928 world. They are rare. Just like I found this car and bought it, the perfect buyer will someday find it as well.

I am in no hurry to sell, if I was, it would be on eBay with no reserve.

But on the $48K I would really hope you have alot of negotiation room. Youre competing directly with 996 Twin Turbo market(and $50K will buy you one HELLUVA 996 TT) and you are touching in the 996 GT3 market. SO be careful. Just to give you my opinion. I wouldnt even call at that asking price, it would scare me away, to not even asking questions. Your opening price is an important number just as in Real Estate.

I can buy a Decent 996 Twin Turbo in the 40K to 50K mile range in the $40K mark. You would be able to get a PEACHY 996 Twin Turbo for $50K, a cherry example,
and those cars are 10 years newer than your.

You would have to find a perfect buyer at your price.

I know you have a nice car and it may be well worth it, but I am in the market right now for a friend of mine and I have first hand experience in whats going on in the Porsche used market right now, all the way up to the 2008 GT3 RS's that are in the 105 range.
Its a HUGE buyers market so you have to do something to get in the buyers.
I had a guy who had a 2010 GT3 for sale and he wanted $110K. I posted thats too much for a 10K mile 2 owner GT3. He didnt believe me but emailed me a month later asking for help because he hadnt received ONE call on his car yet.
Ask yourself. What would you rather have? One of the best 928s on the market for $48k or the iconic 911 twin turbo for $40K
The 996s are not as valuable as other 911s BUT the Turbo's and both GT cars have the SAME desirable drive line that is the most desirable of the 911s right now. The GT1 Racing dry sump motor.

Just be careful and this is only my opinion and we all know what that is worth.
Spoken like a true buyer?

While I respect your opinion it is just that.

Now for my opinion (which I know you didn't ask for but here goes...):

Problem is; 996? it will and always will be a 996....... (the 964 of the 911 world).

There is a reason the 996 face planted when it comes to resale values especially compared to what 993 TTs are still selling for? Perhaps has something to do with styling? Not only that but production numbers are vastly different 996TT compared to the GTS. Also, I hardly think a 996 TT buyer is the same buyer of a 928 GTS?

I would ask you this: As a buyer, how many choices do you have to buy a used 996 TT? Same question regarding the GTS: How many choices do you have for a well sorted 5M GTS?

Two very different cars/markets/worlds when it comes to the GTS vs. any 911.......

David's car is priced right for what it is!

Chuck Z hit the nail on the head.
David sorry to hear of your troubles but as you know the most important thing is your wifes recovery and thats great news!

If my personal financial situation was more optimisitc, I would be very interested in your car at the asking price knowing you are a bit negotiable.
A few months back I was happy to pay almost mid $30's for a G/R GTS auto. I believe the 5 speed is worth at least $10k more. Further confirmation of your price is that a certain dealer had tried to buy my car for the same price I paid.

As far as the 996tt there is no comparison to the 928. I would never consider it. It has the most bland exterior styling of recent 911s not to mention the worst interior of any Porsche ever. In S CA 911's are as common as a Beetle. Personally I wanted something rare that you don't see everyday and I always loved 928's and I beleive ther is a long term possiblity of apreciation (if limited)due to production numbers.
You will find a buyer.

Good luck with the sale. I've seen the car in person, and I must say that it's absolutely gorgeous. It's also one of my favorite color combinations.

David, you and your family are 'good people' and it saddens me to see you at this crossroad. Your wife's improvement is miraculous and not to be taken lightly to be sure... a lot of us just wish a winning lottery ticket would find its way into your pocket instead!

Not knowing fully of the items you wish to liquidate, but in a similar instance that I had -I started with things I didn't use very often... so it would lessen the impact of 'missing' them. Like if the boat is used far less than the GTS -focus on that sale first (IMHO).

Lord knows that distractions of any kind OTJ could be perilous, even fatal... I wish you (& the family) the very best through this transition. I for one am happy to know you and I wish I could help out...

GLWE (everything)

Beautiful car. The ultimate 928. GLWS.

My wife is a breast cancer survivor going on 7 years. The scans are never worry free, but they do get easier on the mind over time. All of the best to you and your family.

Well the wife and kids are against selling the GTS and our boat. So for now I guess I'll hold my cards.

However, I still hold that $48k is a fair price for this particular GTS. I have tracked GTS values for the last 3 or 4 years, so I had a good foundation on which to base my price. Chuck Z has tracked them longer than anybody here. Sure there are all kinds of GTS's in the $30-40k range, but how many are 5 spds and are sorted this well?

I can guarantee you Range Rover would not sell his auto GTS for less than $43k. I have seen it and it is very well sorted and clean as they come. He knows what it's value is. People that own these cars and know their value will not price them against 996TT's on any other Porsche. They have a proven price range, with rare exceptions being folks selling them for other people that have no idea what they are worth, like the one Jim grabbed from Wilmington NC a few weeks ago.

That's good to hear David. No offense to OG, but he didn't know what he was talking about. Anyone who has seen that car knows that is worth every penny of $48K.

I rarely say this, but I think the car may actually be under the money and needs to sell for more, a 5 speed GTS that gets driven and used and is close to perfect as you will find for a driver.

I knew I liked them for a reason.

BTW, I talked to one of your fellow workers last weekend, your name did not come up, nice guy.

Looks like I need to raise the price on the one I'm selling

I think some of these cars sell for way to much, and others sell for way to little.

I can promise you this much, 35 would not buy mine right now.

You should know what the car you are selling is worth, more than most should know.

I did not even know you had one for sale, send me a PM on it, I may have some one looking for a nice 928.

Each owner has the right to decide what their own car is worth. Even if no one else in the world agrees, to at least one person, that is the car's value. However, to actually sell the car, it's only worth what someone else is willing to pay. Other assertions about what a car is 'worth' are only talk.
