David,

So sorry to hear of the medical issues, but admire you (and your wife) for doing both what's needed, and what's right. The boat and GTS can be replaced in a few years when you are in a better financial position, but your personal security, health and comfort are what's most important in the near term.

Never know - you may sell it to a caretaker of the car who will care for it well and possibly sell it back to you in the future.

Good luck with the sale, it is a very nice car - saw it at SITM earlier this month.

Good luck with the sale--secretly I'm hoping that you win the lottery before and sells and you get to keep it though.

David, glad to hear everything is good with your wife. Sorry to see your selling your pride and joy although I completely understand your thought process. BTDT. You've done a great job with the GTS and certainly warrants your asking price. Best of luck to you and your family.

The kids really like the car as well, they have been to all SITM's with me, as well as Frenzy last year.

I doubt it will sell at $48k, however there is room for negotiation, but this is certainly no fire sell. Occassionally we have someone pass through here looking for a nice GTS 5-spd, so maybe this will catch one of them.
Hi Dave,

I am so glad you brought the whole family to SITM and I finally got to meet your wife. BTW, even IF you sell your 928 you know you are still part of the "family" and certainly welcome to come see us anytime, especially at SITM!! You and the boys have become a "fixture" the last few years of SITM and we hope you continue to come and continue to bring the rest of the gang as you did this year!

Good luck with the sale of the GTS! I know it won't be easy, I sold my 2 928s recently, also related to health issues,...sometimes in life you gotta do what you gotta do.

BUT, "We will be Back" .. LOL

Best wishes for continuing Good Health and Happiness for you and your wonderful family!

Cheers,

Dave

OH, for anyone interested in buying Dave's GTS...you would be hard pressed to find one in nicer condition, especially one that is actually driven and used as it should be!

IF I were to win the Lottery tonight...Dave's GTS would be my first purchase...OK second, first would be buying my 85 Euro back.

Here is a picture of the included Project 928 book with the Paul Champagne limited edition cover (#5 of 25). The book's dust cover is a little worn, but the pages of the book are in excellent condition. These books are hard to find and fairly expensive. The Paul Champagne leather cover is no longer offered.

Also here is a picture of the Laco limited edition 928 watch. This is #096. I think there were only 100 of these made. #096 matches the last 3 digits of my GTS's vin. I have never even removed it from the storage case. I also ordered it with the optional metal bracelet, which has never been installed or removed from the plastic bag it came in.

Both are included with the car.

If you have current bills that need to be paid, then by all means sell.

But there have been times in my life when I bought expensive "toys",
knowing I would need to sell them if times got bad. I've lost my job
before, and thought I might need to sell stuff. But many times
things end up working out ok, and your savings will be back up to
their old levels, without having to sell at all. Just something to consider...

I am sorry about the conditions that force you to sell. i am undergoing a big health issue myself.

But on the $48K I would really hope you have alot of negotiation room. Youre competing directly with 996 Twin Turbo market(and $50K will buy you one HELLUVA 996 TT) and you are touching in the 996 GT3 market. SO be careful. Just to give you my opinion. I wouldnt even call at that asking price, it would scare me away, to not even asking questions. Your opening price is an important number just as in Real Estate.

I can buy a Decent 996 Twin Turbo in the 40K to 50K mile range in the $40K mark. You would be able to get a PEACHY 996 Twin Turbo for $50K, a cherry example,
and those cars are 10 years newer than your.

You would have to find a perfect buyer at your price.

I know you have a nice car and it may be well worth it, but I am in the market right now for a friend of mine and I have first hand experience in whats going on in the Porsche used market right now, all the way up to the 2008 GT3 RS's that are in the 105 range.
Its a HUGE buyers market so you have to do something to get in the buyers.
I had a guy who had a 2010 GT3 for sale and he wanted $110K. I posted thats too much for a 10K mile 2 owner GT3. He didnt believe me but emailed me a month later asking for help because he hadnt received ONE call on his car yet.
Ask yourself. What would you rather have? One of the best 928s on the market for $48k or the iconic 911 twin turbo for $40K
The 996s are not as valuable as other 911s BUT the Turbo's and both GT cars have the SAME desirable drive line that is the most desirable of the 911s right now. The GT1 Racing dry sump motor.

Just be careful and this is only my opinion and we all know what that is worth.

Old Guy

I think his price is reasonable for someone who is looking for a nice GTS. Remember that people buy 928s or specifically a GTS because they want one. Now if some one has the money and just wants to buy a "cool Porsche" and not familiar with the various models, then yes they should go and pay for a TT or a GT3. Last year a low mileage 95 GTS Five speed sold for $106,000. Never buy a 928 if you just want a Porsche.

You can't compare 911 prices to 928 prices. They are apples and oranges. How many 996TTs were sold in America? There were maybe 100 manual trans GTS sold from '93 to '95.
Dave, that GTS is the nicest guards red 928 I have ever seen, and I wish you the best. I spent a few minutes talking to your wife at SITM. She is very nice.

I was going to reply to OG's post, but decided not to as I didn't want to pollute David's thread with 911 vs 928 argument. So I canceled the reply I'd been writing.

Good luck with the sale David, and good luck to you and your wife - it'll be a tough few years ahead of you both, and you'll both come out of it with a stronger set of priorities in life.
