Why not turn this into a win,
post the pictures of the damage and then link your buyer to the pictures and let him see what others with 928 experience see.
Id say your inspector was doing what he was asked to do,
though the frame rails are not structural they do have a nasty way of making things look quite worse than they are

As many of you know, I'm selling my black 88; a prospective buyer got a PPI on it today at Auto Therapy in Gaithersburg. Roger, the owner, and a 928 guy, did the PPI. He has a history with the car, having done the engine swap. He's also owned at least one 928 S4, and put the engine from my black car into his after the swap. He's a Porsche guy who should have some familiarity with unibodies.
Anyway, the report today came back with "bent frame," among other things that are much easier to fix. Considering that, to my knowledge, it's been in ONE 5 MPH accident in its entire life, the prospect of frame damage seemed a little shocking. Especially considering I've done most of the work to the car on a lift.
Turns out the frame is not bent at all, but it's the super common bent seat rails that get smooshed when the car is jacked up in the wrong place. Previous owner probably did it. I sure as hell didn't, but I've noticed them and never thought twice about them. These dents are present on just about any 928 (or 944, or any other unibody car with limited jack points).
How Roger could not recognize this is flabbergasting. I think he's trying to drive away this buyer from 928s in general, considering he works on this guy's other cars (not Porsches). This buyer was serious about the car, too (and he's posted here a couple of times; might even chime in on this thread). I disclosed every single wart I could imagine about this car. Had no idea I'd need to disclose "jacking dents" as apparent frame damage. WTF. Apparently we're all driving around totalled cars. Congratulations.

I think we need some definition around a "928 Guy"......That could potentially be maybe me...I dunno, but I think I would be reluctant to call "frame damage" on a unibody......oh and maybe just when we all know that the jack points aren't used sometimes........with the usual results.

Have you actually spoken to the person that did the PPI on your car? it seems like you are assuming he is talking about the seat rails. i would contact him and ask exactly what he says that is bent. You never know something else may be as well. We do many PPI's on 928's in our workshop and its quite amazing to see the damage to some of these cars that the owner has absolutly no idea about, even very minor creases in the box sections up near the strut towers from hits in its past.

At least one major wholesale auction company (Manheim) also considers it to be "frame Damage" which on a unibody can be as simple as irregular gaps from fenders to doors.....or simply adding a 5th wheel mount to a pickup truck.

Wow... my 87 S4 5 speed has several of those jacking dents. I am kinda amazed though at why those dents happen, my 87 was sold in Montreal, and one of the previous owners was a member of the PCA (there is a PCA sticker on the hatch glass). Is it that hard to just disperse the weight more evenly with a long (1 ft) block of 2" thick hardwood on top of the jack when you jack it up? To me this would not produce any dents... unless you set the car down on jackstands that are also located there, but i use the external-most 2 jack points when positioning jackstands.
