coolant bubbling into reservoir and some overflow - fixed I think
Returning from *** today I made a stop a store and then home. Coolant temp was just above the second line with AC on and OAT at 97F.
I pulled into the driveway and shut down the car. I raised the hood and shortly after heard bubbling into the reservoir and had a bit of coolant flowing out the overflow.
I have pulled the heater valve and replaced it with a petcock valve when I did the AC job. Do I have an issue or is the system bleeding extra coolant now that I have closed off the evaporator?

How old is your res cap?
Reason asking is if it is old/failing, it won't hold the proper pressure for the system.

I got a new cap from Roger and added a can of water wetter. I ran the car stationary for about 10 minutes and the guage reads a bit cooler than previous. When I shut down I did not have the gurgling back into the reservoir. What I did notice was whisps of what I think is steam/vapor coming up from the passenmger side engine wheel well area.
Does not smell like smoke and I don't see any leaks so the first thing that comes to mind is now that I have a good sealing cap maybe I have a cracked reservoir bottle and the pressure is pushing out vapor from the cooling system.
Thoughts?

Does it smell like coolant? That is a very distinct smell and nothing else in the car will smell like that... Assuming you put in coolant vs. pure water anyway. You have had all kinds of things apart that could be "drying out" with each successive drive and it could be something different altogether.

I don't see any leaks but need to pull the aircleaner and give it a better look over this weekend.

I did a full drain and flush and replensihed with 50/50 G05 and noticed it does not have the strong coolant smell i am use to. That said the mist is sort of sweet like coolant which is what makes me suspect the reservoir.
All these issues are distracting me from your Euro's door lock issue

No worries man...I can get that car locked up just fine...just means I have to go look at BOTH sides of it! Ah, the suffering I put up with for my 928's! LOL! I can't imagine a car I would rather look at both sides of!! That car just blows me away every time I see it! The only car that gives me tingles in my nether regions more than 928's is the Maserati GranTurismo! We have one in the 'hood and I see it go by several times every week and that thing just makes me weak... I LOVE the look and sound of that car (could be a bit louder though)! To me that car is every bit as pretty as an E-type Jag or a 928! I WILL have one someday!

Head gasket? Can you tell if there is any white exhaust smoke, if the leak is very small it may not be so noticeable. Something is overpressuring the coolant system. Does it only do it after the car is shut off? Can you run it hard for 15 mins or so and then check it while it's running?

I put on a new cap from Roger and put in a bottle of warter wetter. I drove it today and temp ran up to the second white line with AC on and aboot 3 needles lower with AC off. No bubbling whenI got back so looks like problem solved.
I think the mist I saw previously is not coolant but actually smoke from oil burning of the exhuast manifold from a leak that is above the compressor. The old compressor was covered in caked on dried oil. Another project!
