Default 1985 928S a/c compressor problem

I have changed the compressor and control unit and sensors and was succesful in blowing cold air into the car. When idling, the compressor turned on and off as it should with the switch in the control unit. The aux fan also came on when temps reached or exceeded around 110 degrees (according my portable temp meter). Big problem now.... I took the car out for a street test, stepped on the gas and basically melted the gaskets in the compressor...black goop oozed out from the front of the compressor. Now there is no cold a/c, but the compressor still turns on and off ... what could be the problem ?

I've attached a poor picture of it in this thread.

I replaced the old compressor probably because of the same issue ...

Help ?

it looks like the clutch is fried. Mybe you over charge the system?

Well, what's hard to understand is that the old compressor seized almost with the exact same symptons. I had a mechanic diagnose and recharge the compressor -- when I stepped on the throttle, it seized the compressor.

I had another mechanic recently change and recharge the compressor...it worked fine when idling, but when I took it out for a street test and stepped on the throttle, the same thing happened ...

Could it be pulley's or something else causing this ?

I don't understand what is street vs idle. I guess you don't either.
What do you mean "changed" the compressor? Was it rebuilt? Did it come with oil? When it stopped, was there squealing frm the belt?

It sounds like something is seized inside the compressor, but why does it work properly at idle? Does it turn OK, now that you are back in the garage? If not, I would remove the belt and turn by hand. Are you sure it was charged properly? Also get low and high pressure readings.

i cant see a pully doing this. Probably the system is contaminated. find a shop with a a/c machine that it can flush the whole system out

When you changed the compressor, did you also get a new clutch? That clutch is dead. If it's an old clutch, put a new one on. If it is a new clutch that failed in a short time, there is an issue with the compressor and you will need a new one. I have seen rebuilt compressors (done by large, reputable companies) not rebuilt properly kill new clutches. The center portion of the compressor should easily turn by hand. Another reason for compressor death is a contaminated system that fouled up the new compressor.
