It seems like it is becoming time to organize a new regional 928 meet up. There are some great ones that exist, SITM, SITP, Third Coast, Sharktoberfest and the newest coordinated by Tony and Tambra, Spring Fling. After visiting the Cars and Coffee yesterday Rick "redpathtribe" and I started talking about another event during the Summer in which we could drive away from the heat.
We'll I've been thinking about this and as others can attest, I like a good time and am not above the unusual. So I have the crazy idea of planning a significant get together for a long weekend that would mix 928's, awesome touring roads as well as some water sports and quasi-camping...... Follow me on this.
Kevin "Hold On" runs his large marina on Lake Powell. He has many houseboats that he rents, there are numerous Rlisters who enjoy being on or near the water. How about an event that involves renting a couple, few, houseboats for a great weekend of fun. Something families would enjoy as well?
Vote your preference and if there is enough interest we can start planning something for this Summer. You can vote for more than one option.
Kevin, sorry bout offering up your business and backyard to mishchievous miscreants like me and the 928 gang. I suspect there might be some sort of "discount" (notice the little "d" in the spelling) for us![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
EDIT: I can imagine some very "cool" event keepsakes that would be useful and memorable

Dan, you know I'm in! A fun run up to Flagstaff would be great. AZ has some tremondous driving roads and great scenery. The back way into Prescott via Yarnell Hill is a great drive as is the run to/through Jerome, and Sedona is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The drive out of Sedona through Oak Creek up to Flagstaff is fantastic.
A long weekend and run up to Lake Powell is another great option. We rented a houseboat up there with family years ago and had a blast. Not sure if there's enough time to get a houseboat setup for this year, IIRC we had to make reservations months in advance, but the economy may have changed all that.
Since we're in June already (amazing to me), what do you think about sometime in August to give everyone enough time to plan their calendars? It'll definitely be hot enough for a Run From the Sun!

there actually is a fairly well known summer run called Going to the Sun Rally in Montana. the entry fee is $5000, and the cars are sweet - great classics by ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, lotus , AC Cobra, etc. The money raised is for charity, and the rally lasts about a week, and covers about a 1000 mile loop through the heart on Montana. Some of the most spectacular driving and scenery in the country. Cars come from all over the US to participate. Link: http://goingtothesunrally.org/
I'd love to run the Bleumax with these guys. Just a tad bit rich for my tastes, however.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

No word from Kevin yet. I'll pm him, perhaps he is hiding and frightened at the thought of a bunch of 928 owners tearing up his houseboats and ski boats. If the logistics don't work out for a water sports trip this year due to logistics then we can certainly work on it hard for next. At the very least we can plan a brief one/two day fun run up to Flagstaff via the back roads.
It does not seem like many of the AZ gang are reading this thread. I will change the title a bit to see if we can scare them out from their corners.

I'd be up for it as described to Lake Powell but it would have to be next year at this point - this summer is booked.
Day trip to Jerome & maybe Sedona/Oak Creek would be good... Flagstaff is tough in a day - its no fun coming back all the way on I17 and taking 89A both ways to Flagstaff eats up a lot of time - its a nice drive - but a bit slow for that distance - means you'd be in the car most of the day.
Of course could possibly be a 2 day trip too...
