Before I buy the wrong part and feel like a jackass. I'm new to 928s. Thanks in advance!

Looks to be correct for updating the REAR calipers to S4 Brakes, you will also need 2mm? washers/spacers between the caliper and stock mounting plate for correctly centering of the caliper on the S4 rear rotors.

Thanks DR. I'm not sold on the price, but it's nice to get the right idea of what I need

No problem, BTW, make and offer you are comfortable with, you never know. As long as they stand behind them being usable, $150 for a pair of rear S4 Calipers would be a good deal.

IF, you decide to do the update, where ever you get the calipers, let me know and I can send you the part # and where to get the correct thickness washers/spacers needed.

Very kind of you, David.

This is a long term project for me; Black28 (Michael Jaffe) saved the car from a crusher and kindly donated it to me, so I may hold out for a smoking deal (wishful thinking I know).

Car in my sig is my stop-gap

Chris,
if you can hold out and save some more you may want to consider trying to get a complete S4 front suspension assembly as it's fully adjustable, whereas your 78 is not, at least stock it isn't
just a suggestion.
and welcome to the shark tank

What else besides some washers is needed to the full conversion from an '78 OB to S4 brakes? Thinking of spindles, discs, adapters, dust covers. This will be $$$

AD,

Just spacers on the rear, the S4 rear brake lines are the same as the OB's, then the S4 calipers.

Of course new rear rotors and pads. You can actually use OB sensors, you'll just get the wear indicator on one side instead of 2. You need new rear dust shields for the rear rotors as well.

Up front you'll either need a full 86.5 and up suspension.

OR

Adapters for the fronts. (You already have the 78-81 spindles) S4 calipers, pads, rotors, new dust shield that fits the later rotors. New brake lines for S4 as the OB lines will NOT fit. Reuse the sensors if you want (again they will indicate wear on one side of pads instead of both) I think thats it.

When I did all the above on the SilverBulit, I got all my gear from DR. We did the swap at the 2004 OCIC in Whichita, KS. Good times!!

Here's a few pics of the time at the shop. I did the rears with Jim Mayzurk later after we came back to Dallas.

Genikz,
Take your time finding calipers, there are some good deals out there.

Thanks, Chuck! Your pictures make me want to buy everything I need for the swap, even though the car isn't running right now

I actually picked up a set of front and rear S4 calipers last night for $300 from a guy locally.

I'm amazed at how light they are, for how big they are.
