How long is a ban for, and what determines a permanent ban anyway?

For instance, a thread was shut down regarding Kuhn. John's been banned for years, and I remember when it happened, and his offenses never rose to the level of Mason, and yet Mason would get these little time outs. I don't get it. I have no dog in the hunt either, altho I did meet John a couple of times, and he is a good guy who knows his stuff, and would be a good contributor here again. Same with MK.

It takes all kinds to make these places work.

The Kuhn boys were ********. All the time.

Sounds to me Kibort just has to send Bob or John a message telling them he'll be less of a pain in the ***.

Looks like he has chosen not to do that so far.

Hey Ed,

The moderators deleted the thread that broke the camels back-or was it straw or a needle in the haystack--whatever the damn mixed metaphor is, they alluded that it was worse than other offenses. I guess we'll never know what was said unless someone in that thread comes forward and out of respect tot he Mods and to Erik/Hacker, I don't want to beat that dead horse and will let sleeping dogs lie...

Dunno, Kibort never really disliked me. I have been involved in the gearing vs torque threads but I don't think I ever stepped on his toes enough to start throwing mud at me.

Mark was ok, I just could never take the time to read his posts in any thread after seeing what he was going on about. Sort of like putting him on ignore but still being able to glance if the topic was interesting enough.

Now I have no reason to post this.

My guess is that the problem had to do with the derailing of other people's threads.

There are threads specifically about Electric Superchargers, Torque, etc.
If he stayed on those threads, talking to himself, that would be been fine.
But to bring up the same debates over and over on threads that don't
really have anything to do with those topics could easily get annoying
over the years, if you were one of the moderators of the forum. I am sure
he was asked to refrain from doing so, and was unable to stop.

A PC lesson too: Things posted here last forever. It may seem fun to pile on, or vent or whatever. Just don't post things about him now that you wouldn't have before. A temporary ban is just that, temporary. He has an available path to redemption with the IB gods. He also has the ability to read this forum, and these 'forever' posts, even while he suffers through his 'time-out'. Think "Golden Rule" my friends.
I agree. If a post is annoying you, move on. Mark may be resistant to alternative points of view at times, but my impression (as a long-term intermittent poster) is that he didn't attack people.

Can't people be banned from particular forums, rather than all of Rennlist? I hope that his ban doesn't last too long.

I didn't know MK, but I like that he held up the 928 flag high by racing one.
Reminds me of years ago when he posted, mistakenly, to the email list that he was going to come to Road America and "Destroy" the locals and the crew from the Northeast. Didn't work out quite like that. Pissed people off and then didn't do well.

I shook his hand but didn't get to use the whiteboard I had brought. (j/k)

It'd be great to see some 928s at that Chicago PCA club race again.

That was quite a while back...2004? Whats even funnier is many of the "northeasters" you speak of were very helpful in giving MK a rennlist sponsored stroker!!!!

There are not very many 928 racers.......and very few that campaign their cars often......MK is an exception...he drives his car season after season and provides many 928ers inspiration to build their own 928 racers! Kibort and Anderson were very instrumental in both of my race 928's.....

I think its BS that he got banned....sure I didn't read the "bad" posts, since they got deleted....but I do think the "moderators" can be a bit heavy handed lately (guess I'm next huh)..... Honestly I'm surprised this thread has gone on as long as it has without getting shut down.......since the one I started got shut down in 8 minutes.....

I think that as we all know sometimes people rub others the wrong way. But specifically, it seems prudent to make sure you don't rub CERTAIN people the wrong way because they may have more influence. I believe that may be referred to as •tact•

I prefer unmoderated forums where if someone is annoying, everyone tells them so, and peer pressure gets them to shut up.

I just ignore them, but I do not think that it would affect Mark one way or the other.

So is he coming back or is pride going to keep him banned?
Seems like all he has to do is say he is going to be better.

As to my personal opinion: I surely enjoyed those racing videos posted my Mark.
