Of course, but it could as likely be steel. Should take all of 15 sec to try to rule out steel, but not stainless (some types are magnetic).
None of the scenarios are likely. A build/option list would be interesting. Special Wishes?

It would be very hard to make a 928 nose piece out of metal - at least out of one sheet. I would say the likelihood of this being the case is below 1%.

I tend to have doubts.

Sheesh, tough crowd.

I believe Stephen's 928 has a metal nose cone - thats a lot more likely than someone deciding to come "troll" the 928 forum by making something up - out of all the possible "hoaxes", why the heck would someone conceive of this? I could imagine trolls saying they had a special edition 928 (GTE anyone?), special engine (worlds only automatic 928SE anyone?) or 6 gears.

Stephen, sounds like an interesting 928 you have there - what option codes does the VIN lookup return? The ex-factory-owned LHD 928's I've seen for sale in the UK usually have some very nicely optioned interiors. You can search the Porsche database here:

http://fgst.lex-com.net/Porschetest/.../searchno.html

The option codes are the final long section of 3-digit numbers preceededing by M's and I's. Each 3-digit number is an option code.

Pictures of the colour would be interesting too.. the only violet-ish colour I can think of is Amethyst like this one below. Yours is possibly a special order?

I didn't spend any great length of time examining the museum car but my conclusion was that the aluminium panels were polished and the plastic and steel panels were painted to match. I did not come away with the impression the entire car was made of aluminium.

Cheers Roy

That was my impression also.

There is color called 39D (or 3AH if water based paint) Amaranth Violet which was available in '94-95 IIRR. Over the years I have seen at least three GTS with it. While back one was for sale in Netherlands.

Here it is (thanks Nicole!):

Look closely.

Needless to say I am amazed as I have never even heard of a 928 with a non-plastic nose.

Has anyone else?

My 95 GTS was purchased in 2000 from Porcshe Werks 1 in Stuttgart. It had been a Porsche Staff car since new and was fitted with a new engine after I had agreed to buy it.

I believe even that silver all alu factory proto has silver painted normal plastic bumpers. Body is aluminum but bumbers are normal S versions.

Interesting wheels on the museum 928( photo above) , they are the Fuchs forged wheels Porsche fitted to the 1988 944Turbo S( 951) and 1989 944Turbo( 951) with M030 , (16 X 7 & 16 X 9) , same as what I fitted to my 1986 928S ( from a 1989 951), and as far as I can tell I do not think Porsche fitted these to any 928 in this exact style and size combination( meaning 16 X 7 fronts),the 1989 GT rears where similar ( except for Tyre pressure sensor holes) but the 928GT had 8 X 16 fronts with different offsets.
