Default What are these connectors behind my radio? 79 OB

I found two loose connections behind my radio. One is a long clear cover over a connector of some sort. Up above is a red wire just open and exposed. Any idea what these are? See picture.

Sorry, the loose wire is not red, It's a black wire with a red end in the center on the picture two inches left of the metal brace holding the head unit in place.

If the clear has blue wires, I think they are for nightime automatic console shift indicator.

I do not know about the black wire, but that crimped end did not come from the factory.

Both wires originate from inside the factory harness. Perhaps the crimped end is a add on/splice at some point-- as an aftermarket radio was there before the current one. I covered it in electrical tape in the mean time so it doesn't ground out onto something back there.

It's a pair of black wires going into the clear cover. My car is a 5 speed so makes sense that it could be the night light connector. Anyone care to second this hypothesis?

Were these to loose ends connected to each other? I mean was the single wire connected to the clear connector?
Do your clock and cig lighter work? I don't know the answer obviously. Just throwing stuff out there.

I found them unconnected and was tempted to connect them but I recalled a childhood friend who connected two loose connectors on a Fiat he had and started a fire. My clock works and so does my lighter as well as all night illumination, ac, etc. Only thing that doesn't work is my fasten seat belt light but that relay is missing on the fuse panel IIRC. Just figured the PO got tired of the buzz or chime it might have made and pulled it. I've been meaning to get the working though as I like everything to work as it should.

Lol, Did that take away the light on the dash too? I wouldn't mind the light but not a buzzer.

well you could get out the multimeter and test these wires
Test with the parking lights off then on then see if the wires have power with key on in acc or run positions,
then test to see if the wires go to ground.
Also swing by harbor freight and buy a roll of the heat shrink,
dont use tape to secure loose wires
