Default Vermont road trip report: deflowering a time capsule '88

Been fairly quiet here since buying this car

Purchased with 19,600 miles in December 2010 and as of today at 21,700 miles...nearly half of the 2k was put on this weekend in a trip to terrorize the roads of my old stomping ground of Vermont. I ran all my favorite roads: Rt 17 over the appalachian gap from Hanksville to Waitsfield, Rt 125 Hancock to East Middlebury (through Ripton), Rt 100 from Waitsfield to Hancock through Granville Gulf.

The 928 kicked some serious asphalt and held its own perfectly well against my friends BMW Z8. We were two front engine, V8 powered, German road missiles. No tickets, no accidents, no equipment failure. This trip was certainly a torture test of sorts. 3 days of hard driving, some rough pavement (winter was tough on certain Vermont roads), pouring rain, some dirt roads, and lots of dead bugs. The 928 seems to have burned out a foglamp, and I also noted some clutch slippage during a couple WOT situations, although this was not happening consistently (I will have to do some searching of the forums to learn about potential causes).

Some photos---->

Northbound route 22A:

928 and Z8 at our base of operation in the Mad River Valley

Sly the cat prefers the 928 over the Z8, or his owner's beater Toyota

Headed up a steep private road to visit the log cabin where I lived for 5 years. The cabin has been vacant for the past 6 years or so and the driveway is not maintained so we had to park at the bottom. Don't worry, I didn't bottom out anywhere.

Time for a bath...Vermont is a filthy place.

Hey, why did you back the car off the road over all those rocks? That couldn't be good for the car! LOL! I hate it when that happens!

LOVE the Z8! Probably my fav BMW ever...though I really do like the M1 also...

Congrats on your trip...You should have made a quick run on Sat up to the STOWE area..The American Antique car show was in town showing up in the Mountain Base Lot...You could have joined a couple of us..It was sunny and we made a run up through Smugglers Notch to the Champlain Islands..Had my MTNSHRK out for the day too. Great day to be out!

Now James, you know that 928s are tuff..and you don't neccessarily have to keep them lined up and polished in a big a$$ garage (that I would love to have, you lucky dog).

Here is some Secret Test Footage of Porsche showing just how tuff they really are....
