Default What starter to use with pan spacer?

I've been told that you need to use one of the mini (high torque) starters with a pan spacer, since there isn't room for the stocker.

Is there a domestic equivalent that people are using? I seem to recall that SBC starters bolt up vertically to the block, and our 928's bolt horizontally. Will a Ford or Mopar product work?

IMI. Requires re-clocking to clear the pan, and care if you're ever going to put an aluminum belly pan on, the battery terminal ends up pointing almost straight down....

Hi Rob, thanks for the info.

But is that truly a 928 spec starter from IMI, or is it a domestic replacement unit that's being purposed for use on a 928?

Get the IMI from 928 Int'l. It's ready to go and a good price.

Adam-

Short answer is I don't know- I got mine from Greg, receipt says $220. I do recall him having to reclock it. Did you see this thread?

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...for-928-a.html

The starter pictured in the above thread has the same nose piece on it that the one on my car does.

Might be worth checking in with Roger. Or Mark. Or Greg.

Anybody deal with these guys before?

Seems to be in keeping with the project guidelines as in "cheap". This is for a track car, so I imagine starter use would fairly nominal on an annual basis.

Are you still in the pan spacer business?
