2 928 GTS for sale with very low start price in Japan
Hi Gents
First time I’ve posted on the 928 board but just came across 2 928 GTS’s for sale at auction in Japan with extremely cheap starting prices the highest translating to $6,735.87 USD = 550,000 Yen and 500,000 Yen respectively
No affiliation and sorry that the pics are s41t but I’m not the seller. These could prove very nice flips for one or two of you.
You need to register for an account to view here which does not cost anything if you'd like more details: http://auc.braveautointernational.jp/
First GTS is a 1995 with 34k miles on the clock LHD in blue (sorry do not know exact color code):
Second is a 1992 with 75k miles on the clock again LHD in green (sorry again as I do not know exact color code):
Auction end is tomorrow
Best regards,
Mark

^ Yes I've heard the process is a PITA for our US friend
The process to import from the USD or Canada for us Europeans is fortunately quite easy
What would these be worth state side?

Not to mention you would NEVER get that car in to Cali!
Nice start prices and if those were the sale prices might be worth it... Figure $2k in shipping and at least $15k in EPA/DOT conversion costs...add in the car price... Total deal would be good, but how would you feel knowing you just spent 2X or 3X the cost of the car on just getting it to the country legally? That assumes the car does not need work...what are those chances?! Slim or they would be selling in Japan!
If that green one was Oak or Aventura (and it looks like the latter to me) I would love to have it! Nice car, but you can find US versions in that color ('93 MY) for under $35k an they are already here and probably have lead a more pampered life to boot...

Thanks, J.
I'm just looking, anyway. Import a car? Not me. Like you said, plenty of examples already stateside. Besides, I've already found a special 89GT to fill the hole that selling the 86.5 will leave. (more details in coming weeks)

I guess the first one would be say $65k+ USD market value and agreed RORO shipping would be about $2k
I have seen quite a few 928 GTS come up for auction on this site recently so well worth checking back on a regular basis.
In Japan they have a 5-1 guide on condition (5 being mint), both these show as 4 which is good. When we buy from the UK or Switzerland we always use an agent to check and source the cars for us first but you are right ... there are never any guarantees.
Even though I live in the UK our business is located in Zurich, Switzerland and unfortunately there is not a big 928 or any transaxle model following there. I do however know of a fellow RL member whom is located in Norway and regularly imports 928, 968 & 944’s and has to date never had a problem with the quality of the cars based on their score system. I can try and pull him over to comment – his name is Beorg.
How does import for show cars work in the US and sorry I have to mention this but also for parts cars – slap my wrist for asking

$40k on a '92, not likely... even with low miles. '95 with low miles maybe that one would be above $55k...wouldn't bet the bank on it.
Again, remember guys these are USED CARS...just like in the US... Those pics show NOTHING and the car WILL get scratched and dented on the trip here from Japan... Who is going over to check for TBF too? I mean seriously, unless you have someone IN JAPAN (or any other country, or state or city) who REALLY KNOWS 928's it is a total crap shoot and buying over overseas is a total crap shoot that is going to cost you an arm and a leg.
Put it this way, when I picked up my GTS from the RI there was a Z8 parked outside waiting to be picked up (been there for MONTHS) and a M/B that used to be REALLY NICE that had been there for YEARS! It is no small task to get a car in to the US legally. Folks have studied this to see if they could make a living at it and the resounding answer was no...the exchange rate is worse now than it was then too...
That said, they are cool cars! All GTS's are IMHO!
I think that blue one is either Midnight blue or Iris blue...had to tell for sure.
Future, I don't know about parts cars...
Show cars are REALLY HARD! There is a list of 15 or 20 cars now I guess that are allowed to be imported as "show" cars. If you are NOT on the list...TO BAD! If they made more than 400 of the car you want to import...TO BAD! That puts nearly ever Porsche out of the running for "Show/display" import... OH, even if they allow you to do that...You STILL have to EPA them, you just don't have to DOT them! Freaking govt. IDIOTS!
Just did the quick math...they are 46k MILES on the '92 and 21k MILES on the '95. While those are low (especially the '95) they are not THAT LOW for US GTS's. That would be very low for a German GTS though.

We can buy them in Canada with not much fees, Problem is you get very little time to evaluate when it docks.....start it and once around the block then hand over your cash.
There is a biz case but no-one wants to spend the money.

Malcolm, you are right, Canada with all 30 million of your folks and 9 month long winters are really not clamoring for old 928 GTS's at ANY price... If an enthusiast in Canada were looking for one either of these *MIGHT* be a good choice...or might not. Again, used cars folks...buyer beware and as future says, you BETTER get someone who REALLY KNOWS 928's to look at it before you send any $$$$$ then you better ship it single car enclosed container...and even then be ready to fix some dents and scratches.
