Default 1980 instrument cluster. advice please

I am not current on what instrument clusters can be swapped/used in my MANUAL 1980 928.

I am trying to finish up my street/track 928..... I have 3 spare instrument clusters but of course they are for a AUTO transmission .

My current/correct MANUAL 1980 instrument cluster seems to have a fault with the plastic film circuit board ( nothing works except for a few lights)

What are my options? Does somebody here rebuild these?

Anybody have a good unit they would like to sell?

Thanks

Here is a link for anybody else having trouble with there cluster -

http://www.dwaynesgarage.norcal928.o...epair%20II.htm

Does anybody know if a 1978 euro, manual cluster would work in a 1980 ? From what I saw on pelican it looks like only 1979 to 1984 will work. Can anybody confirm.

Still ready to buy if you have a cluster that will work..... I will try to fix mine but dont have high hopes for it.

Thanks

I am really having trouble getting info on this.....

the parts # on my plastic circuit board is #88481122 DATE stamped 12/79

Does ANYBODY know if a early 1978 EURO cluster would work?

Who sells parts to rebuild these clusters ( plastic circuit board ect.... )

As always, thanks for any help.

Its hard to know what will work. If you do buy used make sure you look at it first to make sure its the same I do know that an 81 and an 82 have different clusters so 82 and up will not work for you.

i priced a new cluster unit for my 81 euro manual from my local porsche dealer here in ireland and got quoted €360 on an exchange unit basis.sounds like its a reconditioned unit you get.

I tried all the cleaning tricks to no avail on my 81 manual. The connection tabs were seperating from the board & nothing I tried was going to make the connections. Nobody I talked to had a new/used board & SITM 08 was a week away, so, desperate & with nothing to loose, I soldiered wires to the tabs and changed the connectors. I think everything works better now. No problems after 3 years.

Thats good to know. So maybe anything 81 and down might work..... I am going to call the dealer just to be sure.

Thanks for the reply..... I have to be honest, thats more than I want to spend on my street/track car if nothing else works, I guess its a option.

I will look into this, do you have any pictures..... I am not quite clear on what you did. Would I be using normal wire? What gauge wire?

Then you just follow the circuit then solder it?

Thanks again..... I am surprised by the lack of good used clusters for the early manual cars.....

well, my other tread got deleted..... thanks, thats a huge help.

If I end up buying a new circuit board , has anybody installed a new plastic circuit board on there instrument cluster? Is it difficult?

I am not the best with a solder gun and usually end up destroying something.

Also, if anybody has any leads on a good used instrument cluster 79-81 , I would be happy to pay a finders fee.

Thanks again for all the help.
