GTS article in "Sports and Exotic Car"
The July 2011 issue of "Sports and Exotic Car" magazine arrived yesterday. WOW, was I surprised to see Rich Andrade's (of Mesa AZ area) beautiful '93 GTS on the front cover. There is a VERY nice 6 pg article (including lots of pictures) - quite accurate - about 928 GTS's in this issue. Also an article reviewing the other front engine water cooled Porsches. Bottom line is that all of these cars are quite desirable if well maintained, and are priced well below comparative values.
For those who don't know, Betsy Andrade, Rich's wife is the primary supplier of all the membership gifts that 928 Owners Club provides for new and renewing members. Last saw them when we had breakfast with both in a small restaurant on Kauai a couple of years ago. Great folks. Congrats to both on having your car featured.
For those who don't know of this magazine - it is published by Hemmings, and concentrates on sports and exotic cars that are a bit older. Over the past few years this has become one of my favorite automotive magazines.

In the summer's we used to go to the Hemming's Car Shows at their HQ's in Bennington, VT. Always an eclectic group of cars. Rob, just went to the HMN site and the July 11 issue was not up as of yet. A scan of the July cover would be great ! T

My classic gray airbag wheel in VERY GOOD condition out of my '94 is and has been for sale...you might be looking for something non-stock though.
Rich, congrats! Great deal my friend! Always fun to see your car in print for sure! This magazine has always been pretty positive about the 928 too I might add and is a magazine that I have subscribed to in the past and really enjoyed.
For those of you who don't know, Rich also rebuilds the fuel injection brains on the later cars, my S4 is sporting his work right now and I certainly can't complain one bit!

Rich sent me an e-mail a month or two ago about the initial contact from the Hemmings feature author, the follow-up correspondence, then the meetings and the photo shoot. It is great stuff, and certainly provides an interesting backstory to the full feature story. I hope Rich will see fit to polish that up into a mini feature of its own and share it with the group.
Over time, exposure in these magazines will rekindle interest in the 928 among the motoring public. We may never dispel the perception that these are maintenance black holes, but we may be able to add some perspective. For instance, the dealers' per-visit service costs of an out-of-warranty Jag, Benz or BMW easily overshadow the costs of keeping a 928. Plus DIY on the 928 is a practical option not available on the new Benz; same perception that led to the squeeze on 928 values is on the immediate horizon for the 4+ year old soon-to-be-off-lease luxo sedan crowd.
Congrats Rich and Betsy on the great feature, and thanks for letting the world see what a great car the 928 happens to be.

I've been subscribing to Hemmings S&E for years, and they do love the 928. They periodically feature a shark in one way or another. Just this morning, I was browsing thru an old issue from 2007 where they rated the top 10 GT cars of all time, and the 928 was the only one that everyone put on their list. A year or so ago, they ran a nice article comparing an OB with a GTS. Good stuff.

My GTS in Hemmings
Gary ... thanks for the heads up. Hemmings was supposed to send me a few copies of the magazine but they haven't been delivered. I've been waiting until I saw the article and knew it was REAL before going public about it. I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN IT.
Hemmings contacted me in March, said they'd seen my GTS on a website and asked if they could feature my GTS in their magazine. It took a bit of thinking, what website? Oh, the one that I put up after the 2000 928 Owners Club OCIC ... and promptly forgot about. Well, the photos are still out there in cyberspace and caught their eye.
At first I didn't know if it was a scam, but after getting the forms to sign my likeness, GTS title (no, not really) to Hemmings, I figured it was legit.
Jeff, the west cost associate editor is a very skilled photographer and knows much about cars in general, but wasn't too familiar with the 928. He liked the idea of featuring a ONE OWNER Porsche 928 GTS. I spent a lot of time filling him in on the facts and history of the car and sent him some background information so he could accurately tell the story.
I took my camera and snapped a few photos while Jeff was doing his magic.
I hope it is a nice article.

James,
I agree - a one owner 18 year old car is quite rare. I'm happy to be the second owner of a 17 year old car 928, and of a 20 year old Alfa spider. Third owner of a 21 year old MB 560 SEC (owned for 13 years), and of a 41 year old MB 450 SL (owned for 32 years). The original Houston oil man who owned my GTS finally traded it for a Maserati after 12 years.
Anyone else out there have a one owner 928????
