Congratulations Rich! You told me this was coming, glad to hear it's finally out. I will definitely have to track down an issue, maybe even get your autograph... You have a beautiful GTS, I'm proud to say I've even had the priviledge of driving it
Hopefully you'll bring the covergirl out for all to see at our AZ shark gathering at Cars and Coffee on June 4th!

Tom,
Since they spent a lot of time with Rich, and got a lot of info from him, that might have been the source of 166 mph.
I'd like to do a poll here of how many GTS owners have had the speedometer needle at 171 mph!
There is no place where I've driven mine that I can do that. Only get the S4 to 138-140 on the back straight at VIR (but that's in 4th gear).

LOL ... good point Gary, top speed is a very theoretical thing for most of us.
Of course Porsche mentioned it in numerous places and bragged of having the fastest production vehicle in the world when the S4 came out, so it is part of the identify of our cars even if we never see those speeds ourselves.
BTW, how did your S4 feel at 138-140? Could you imagine driving it at that speed on an autobahn?

Tom,
Well, I did actually drive at 135+ on the autobahn about 15+ years ago, but it was in a Bimmer, not a Porsche. Had some Porsches pass me that must have been doing close to 145-50 when I was doing 120. (all in mph, no kph).

Wound my '92 GTS to 165 on the A95 and it was still going strong and had plenty more revs to get to 171 or more! Not sure it had the HP to get through the air above 170, but I bet it would have done 175...

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. Great article, and great car! I espcially like Rich's last comment - "I've made friends from all over the world based upon my choice of car and participation in group activities." So true!

Picked up a copy after seeing this thread. Great article and congratulations Rich!
Also check out the article on page 52 about designer Peter Horbury. He has a lot of good words for the design of the 928 including "a revolution" and "masterpiece"

There will be an article about the GTG at Tass' place in Wilbraham, MA coming soon in Sports and Exotics. David LaChance the editor was there last month. Great guy.

Autobahn A1 north of Nurburgring 4AM one night last summer. Speedo was showing few mph more than 171. Navigator said 170 and there was clearly more to come. Maybe 5-10 mph but had to slow down. Rain drops look interesting when they hit windshield at 150+ mph.

My GTS in Hemmings Sports & Exotic
This afternoon the postman FINALLY delivered my copies of the July #71 edition. How nice to see my GTS on the cover.
WOW, Jeff Koch did a great job. I'm very impressed that he listened so well while taking all the photos. As you can imagine, he tool 100 times more photos than made the pages, but he made sure that the right photos were available.
The Arizona sun can be bright and harsh for photography. I was surprised at how late in the day Jeff waited to take most of the full body photos. When we finished it was just about dark. That is how the driving lights had such a sparkle in the photo.
One of Jeff's comments that didn't get published was the GTS justifies the repeal of the speed limit ... I couldn't agree more!
For those in the know, Jeff made one minor error. My GTS is not an early model.
