I saw a new listing for these headlights on eBay today. NO relationship with the sale, the seller, etc. Just wanted anyone interested in these to be aware of them. They are expensive! Minimum bid of $500 as posted, with free shipping. Link:

If the selling price ends up near that price, that is a good deal. While installing my lights this weekend, I managed to drop one and popped off the center diffuser and broke off the plastic, conical plastic holder on the ring. So, I purchased a complete arm/ lens/ shroud from EBay UK. Shipped, it will end up costing me around $240 US, in case anyone is looking for just one.

Or are you just going to use the plastic holder etc and keep your old lens?

I am hoping I can make it work somehow.

So I've never quite understood the significance of the 8in lights. Are these unique to Euro spec 928's? Were they ever delivered on U.S. cars, or did all U.S. spec 928's come with smaller headlights?
Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

You cannot make RHD lights work for LHD. The pattern and cutoff are opposite, so you will be shining light into the driver's face that is on the other side of the road coming in your direction. The 8" H4 headlights were standard fitment on Euro 928's. US 928's got the 7" sealed beams, which are about as good as the lights on a Model-T Ford. In '87, US 928 headlights switched to 8" H5 headlights. These were better, but still not as good as the 8" H4's.

Dan, I know you didn't ask me, but along with significantly better light, I believe the 7 inch lights do not fit the opening properly and the chrome rim looks terrible to my minds eye. I would be just as happy with H 5-s for the same reasons.

H4's are terrible!! We've got them on the GT and S4, and in the bright afternoon sun they don't make a bit of difference! I was so not looking forward to not having to shell out another $350 each for the GTS... Absolute waste of money, don't bid on that auction! ![ducking](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon107.gif)
The OB's (I know, I know) had official USA DOT-approved 7" sealed beam headlights, later cars had 8" lights with replaceable H5 halogen lamps. The beam pattern is not much better, however, with a blob of light on the pavement just ahead of the car and not much elsewhere. But with streelights every 100 yards, no big deal.
The Euro H4's have a sharp upper cutoff on low beams-- hard to blind oncoming drivers with that, let me tell you... and throw light across a wide arc, making it much too easy to see the edge or the road-- Scary!! And worst of all they throw a extra wedge of light to the right, (or left, for those of the other persuasion) which just annoys the deer and other critters hiding alongside the road. And they also don't meet the official guvm't standards, so you can't turn them on until you've left the highway at speed. Useless, I say!

Best part about the Euros is that you can set them so the cutoff is right below rear view mirror of the car in front of you (very sharp cutoff)...and then the little dips and bumps in the road make the H4's just "flash" them in their rear view (without having to do anything)..and they'll quickly get out of your way.
<++++++++love my H4's...
On my way down to Sharktoberfest last year... I was wondering what that flashing was..way up the road off in the far distance....came to realize it was my lights making the road signs fluoresce.

Dan,
As Tom said above, they have a much sharper cutoff on the low beam than the OE H5 lights. In my opinion, they also do a much better job of lighting the road and the right side shoulders etc. than H5/s. An, they are significantly brighter/stronger beam on high setting as well.
They do need a small electrical wiring "adapter" to mate the OE H5 plug on the car to the H4 bulb in the lights.
I've had them in my street/highway 928's for about ~7-8 years, and really like them. I also have a protective vinyl covering on the lenses to minimize loss via chips!
