windshield to trim clearance?
Have a quick windshield install question I was hoping someone could help with. Is there supposed to be a gap between the upper edge of the windscreen and the upper windshield trim. When looking the the WSM I couldn't find anything that specifically addressed this clearance. all I could find was this diagram on page 64-8 showing a sketch of the cross section. In the sketch the trim appears to be in direct contact with the glass.

Thanks for the quick reply. I knew it had spacers at the bottom just wasn't sure how they controlled the inset depth at the top. so when they install a WS how do they gage how far into the urethane to press the top of the glass to control the gap between the WS and trim once the trim is installed?

Your posted WSM sketch clearly shows a gap between the clip and the glass. The trim piece must contact the front side of the glass, otherwise it would be a trim piece.
Harbor Freight sells a good plastic Trim Removal Tool set. The wide flat tool works best at removing the top windshield trim piece.

On my 87, with GTS trim it is flush except for maybe 5 inches near the corners, and on Toms 87 it is not flush, Dans GT is up in the air so I can not look at it.
I suspect yours should have a gap at the top, all the way across.

FWIW you can install a rubber closed cell foam strip about 6 inches in length at the top corners,
this will cut down on wind noise,
the foam tape is sold at ACE get the black closed cell rubber foam,
it has one side with glue on it position the seal centered in the corner then with a small tab of the backing left out gently pull off the backing with foam in place.

PET shows "adhesive tape" but it is basically closed cell foam with a strip on glue on one side:
I "Borrowed" this picture from Roger's website (sorry Roger ):
What is the use of this tape? Do I cut it and put in between the clips? Or is it to fill the gap between the trim and windshield?
Thanks for any advice!!!

Necroposting here..
I've had a lot of wind noise issues between the glass and the outside trim (#5 and #22), and it depends WHO lays down the glass. It may be high enough, or not. Thats the big variable. It started after a glass replacement at 928intl, the glue layer was too thin, and there was a monster gap between the glass and the trim, and a HUGE amount of highway noise from the entire top of the cabin interface with the glass.
I had my body shop fix this when it was time for another windshield, they put down glue, the glass, and the trim...then "pushed" the glass OUT to the trim from the inside (doesn't take much pressure) and then after about 60 seconds, release the pressure, and the glass will remain at that "level".
My glass is now _flush_ with the trim, and the wind noise is gone from that gap.
