True but..
If I were going to buy a car and replace everything I would simply have bought a new Porsche. I know there is some sarcasm there but some truth as well. The car is technically low mileage for a 22 year old car at 117K, so mileage wise most parts on a high quality car should be fine. It's the age on some of the parts that are dry and cracking that hurts these cars. I guess I don't have the budget to own this car properly, doing my best though.

It wasn't a rash suggestion.
Its the easy formula for refreshing them.
Typically it costs about $3500 to $4000 in parts.
Its the efficient and effective way to make them very sound.
At 120K miles and 20+ years old, a 928 car will need the list.
Front campaign TB/WP , intake campaign, MM/Steering/OPG, Body electrical campaign. Actually, at 70K miles and 20+ years --- in most cases I've run across they need the list. (Same for 951).
Out of 9 refurbs I've been involved wrenching on, only one car didn't need motor mounts. That's because it had them fairly recently. But the pan gasket wasn't done then and was leaking so the lions share of that work will need to be repeated. Another had new Porsche liquid filled mounts in early 2002 --- flat now. Only two of these cars had more miles than the one you are enjoying.
Doesn't seem to be much getting around it. I see talk about getting around it. I see folks buying cars that were sorted or maintainted (except usually years earlier ) thinking they are going to get around it...
The value is still huge. Really huge. Especially your S4 Manual. Great car! And you are right, the major mechanical should be fine.
Just as you search for the cause, consider replacing stuff pre-emptively

I keep trying to tell people the mileage doesn't matter. The rubber in those dampers/regulars will wear out just sitting there. They are over 20 years old. Even the struts, other rubber is starting to show its age. I couldn't believe the difference new struts made on my 37k 79. I didn't think it needed them at first. Man I was wrong. I am sorry If I said something that botherd you. I was just being realistic. You bought one of the most complicated ones you could buy. That fuse panel will have to be cleaned some day before you get all the elictrical grimlins out. You will not believe the difference it will make. Just trying to help.
Best of luck,

no bother, everyone has been great
I do have to say that this forum has made owning this car better, atleast I can come here to find similar problems and solutions and everyone helps with their contributions. Sorry if anyone thought their comments bothered me, I just generally fustrated that maybe I picked the wrong car for my purpose. Had I know that all of this was in need, I would have gone with an earlier simplier car or with something else. If I have to replace everything that I have read in these forum I will likely be better off selling it now.
My hope is that I can get her sorted without replacing everything to where I can enjoy it some.
Excuse my fustration,
Thanks all,
Diehard

I've never ever been frustrated with my 928 over the past 11 years.
Wait a minute, there was that one time.......
We'll give you all the info you need plus much more (just dont ask obout oil type and viscosity or horsepower/torque)......do us a favour though and at least become a member.
Now, whats the next 'thing' I need to fix!!!
