Default CE Panel 94 GTS

This red power wire located in the top left slot of the "S" component is a little baked and needs to be replaced, but would like to know where it goes so it can be fixed? Did trace it down the pass side up unitl the middle of the seat. Thanks in advance. Tony

I'm not an electrical guy, but consider what caused it the melt in the first place, or risk having it happen again.

You should be able to check the wsm wiring diagram to see what it feeds and decide if you should be really really worried or not. I wouldn't drive the car until things are sorted, that's a heavy fire risk.

Tony, that is terminal S15, Sheet-11 of the 94 GTS wiring diagram, right-hand side (coordinates O-96).

It's a 0.5mm red wire that feeds power to the inside light(s) in the rear tailgate, and the inside light in the roof.

The power source is bus 30 (12v always live) via fuse 25, which also feeds power to a bunch of other lights through different circuits. That particular wire only feeds the tailgate and roof lights, that junction is connector "T10" in the B-pillar.

I suspect a short in there somewhere. Do those lights work? Any history there?

Cheers, Jim

Might be easier to replace the wiring harnesses downstream of the T10 connector, then repair that burnt wire up to T10 connector and any damaged wires behind the CE panel. A late model parts car should have the same inside light harnesses as your GTS.

Wasn't there a recent thread about that harness shorting in the roof somewhere? I'd cut the connection until willing to dig further.

It is VERY common for the power wire for the light over the rear view mirror to short to the body.

I bet something got a little crimped when the new headliner went in. That would not be uncommon at all I wouldn't think! Thankfully you can pull that wire and never worry about it again or fix it...either one. Of all the wires to have messed up that is a really really minor one but certainly could still start a fire.

Good luck and take pics when you trace the problem down.

Tony,

We are having lunch at Bone Daddy's on Hwy 183 at the Duval exit (the Bone Daddy's is on the East side of 183 on the north bound access road). I will be there by 11:15, most folks start getting there between 11:30 and 11:45.

I can't wait to see "Just Beachy"!!!

Tony, I like your car the more I see it! If it is half as beautiful in person as it is in photographs you better keep your keys connected to you at ALL TIMES!

This guy Roger, down your way, sells the Jim Morehouse CD's with all sorts of good stuff including the WSM and wiring diagrams.
