So I feel the need to add some history / color to this thread... as came up on another thread on the forum, I had a handshake agreement with the original seller to purchase this car about 6-7 weeks or so ago. Cash in hand, price agreed and PPI scheduled.

The current owner had been speaking with the seller for some time before, but for personal reasons could not do the transaction and the car remained available for sale. Through unfortunate coincidence (or perhaps through reading a thread I'd started which indicated that I was about to purchase this car) the current owner got back in touch with the seller and made a bid which was higher than mine; while I would have appreciated the option to meet the bid, I don't not blame the seller for apologizing to me and selling to the current owner. Kicked myself for a long time or not having skipped the PPI etc., but learned my lesson I guess.

So have to say, I find it quite frustrating to see that, in the end, this guy actually didn't want the car, while I was extremely disappointed to have lost it... and even more so because it was such an important feature to me that it didn't have those rubs strips! The reason he's now selling was one of the car's most attractive features to me:-) I guess that how it goes sometimes.

For anyone interested (and I have no idea how much he is now asking) the exterior is in nearly flawless condition... nary a scratch or significant nick. Wheels, if I recall, are similarly good. Needs new tires. From the outside it looks amazing.

The interior, as stated above, is light gray throughout - the overall appearance of the car is thus extremely monochromatic, silver on silver really. Some may like it, others less so. The interior frankly looked worn in many areas that did not show up in photos, quite a lot of wear and some dark stains in the leather which Leatherique may not have handled, and the various trim pieces had - as this color is want to do over time - aged in different ways such that some areas are light grey, others darker, and others with a blueish or brownish tone. Again for the right price not a big deal, but this is not something that can easily be fixed so your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for in terms of interior condition.

Mechanically, it has indeed been well maintained with lots of records to support that. If I recall correctly it was going to be in need of some service soon - perhaps brakes, maybe timing belt - but overall the prior owner was fastidious and the car was known to one of the best shops in Orange County as a solid runner.

In any case I hope the seller finds the right replacement with rub strips - much easier to come by I'd guess - and that this car goes to a good home.

Best,

Joel

If selling due to lack of rubstrips, then there is more to the story.
Its simple job to afix them to the car with modern adhesive.
Color matching is not an issue, either with modern paint.

The fact that holes wouldn't be drilled to do it as a qualifier seems like pure nonsense.

Sorry, but there has got to be more to the story.

If you knew the owner, you would not say this...

Hi Nicole,

Yes and no... I am in serious discussions about a car right now, but it has an issue, just discovered, that has changed my perception of its value. The owner's asking price is firm, so not sure what I will be doing yet.

But from what I was told by the PO of the Silver car, its current owner's offer was "significantly more" than mine, which if true (and assuming he will not want to lose money) could diminish my interest... yes it is probably worth more than the price I shook hands on, but not sure how much more.

I am also, to be honest, a bit concerned about the quickness of his decision to sell, can't understand why he wanted the car so much as to knowingly step into my deal, then just a few weeks later change his mind... the lack of rub strips was always fairly obvious.

Again all fair and square in terms of the seller's decision and the buyer's interest, but in the back of my mind can't help but feel concerned that somehow a few weeks with the car may have uncovered other issues besides the strips which might be influencing a desire to sell?

Feel free to PM me offline.

Best,

Joel
