Default My first issue one day in

So I go to put gas in my (well my sons when he gets his license) new 928. Since I havent driven a stick since my 2007 GT3, I got in and started it in gear. I quickly pushed in the clutch but it killed my battery. Luckily being the brilliant, good looking, athletic, humble and sincere person I am, I thought since I was on a hill at the chevron station ($45 for 10 gallons of gas) where the grade was 2.72 percent down. I turned on the key, pushed in the clutch, put it in 2nd gear and
popped the clutch at about 9.2 MPH. It started right away. On the way home,
all the warning lights stayed on including low gas. Is this just dead battery? I am going to go put the battery on the charger once I find it. Any damage or just a plain dead battery? Well off to the manuals to find the battery. I am going to take off the terminals and clean them off. Anyone know WHERE the battery is?

Battery is under the spare tire, which is under the plastic cover under the carpet under the hatch.

When you jump start the car, it does that thing where all the lights stay on on the dash - until you then restart it - after the "jump start". IIRC. Yep - I am almost 100% sure. Just charge the battery and think about replacing it.

Get the right form factor battery. I got a standard sized one, it works well, but it's a real stretch to get the ground cable onto it.

My car, an '88 S4 has a yellow Optima battery, works great.

Optima is THE way to go. I've got one in my old Trooper, bought it seven years ago. Recently voltage dropped to 4 volts because I haven't driven the thing in months, took it to Autozone for analysis, they trickle-charged it for two days, it came back to life and is still working great.

Check your main ground strap carefully, as they can get hidden corrosion under the PVC sleeve which makes them resistive under high start and charging currents. Everything can look fine until the sleeve is removed.

the warning lights will go off on a jump start the moment that the alternator starts to charge.

Look at the 14 pin connector by the jump post and make sure it has not come loose/popped out as this will cause the same symptoms without it being able to crank etc.

So the batt was weak/old; you're new to sharks, right? Chances are you have a drain, whether the batt is old or not. Most of us either disconnect the batt or use a trickle charger if it sits more than 2 weeks, YMMV.

Factory alarm has alarming draw.
Bridged it on 3 cars and they now hold charge indefinitely.

BTW, don't ever use graphite in the door or hatch lock.
Take one apart and you'll see why not.
