Default Found a matt supplier who offers CORK. What color embrodiery and binding should I get

PCA newsletter email came today and on a whim I clicked the matt link. So far no one has ever had Cork color available. I don't really need replacements but I never liked the brown color matt's I have now.

The question is; What color 928 embroidery/binding should I go with? First thought was a color close to my Petrol Blue paint - which seems to be "medium blue" but second thought is to go with black embroidery/binding on over the Cork matt. What do you all think will look best?

Here's a shot of my current matt's for your consideration.

For those who are in the same boat as me, here's the link.

I had my wife's name, Roxann, embroidered on her floor matts and rear cargo mat.....That really tripped people out when they saw it. Her car was the same color comb as yours. Stick with the black thread.

Good luck keeping those cork mats clean. That colour is a dirt magnet.

Perhaps first spray them with Scotch Gard to improve stain resistance.

Don't toss the black ones.

In my opinion you should have the binding thread match the mat color. Then go with black for the logo embroidery. If you bind the mats in black it would be too "busy", drawing your eye down to the floor.

Good point. I might be swayed to go that route.

Black,
It shows less dirt!

I hope you can get an original look cork, but I'll be very surprised if they actually have mats that match our original "cork" color. I tried many times to get cork carpet to match the original which is a cool "orangey" color. I had several samples that all had more of a reddish color and it Clashed w the cork leather and leatherette.

In the end, I started converting over the carpet to "Silverblack". Black doesnt show dirt, but it shows grass, etc. The Silverblack has flecks of silver in it and shows less of the grass, lint, etc. I did the lower doors in sliverblack and ended up getting silverblack floormats w silver 928. The interior already had a cork/black them going on with the pod, seatbelts, etc, etc.

I think your interior looks awesome!! the Brown mats compliment it really well!!

Best of luck getting the Cork as it will look really cool, but see if you can get a sample first to make sure you don't pull the trigger on expensive mats, then find out they don't match.

Here's a pic of black. Sorry if I hijacked your thread.

Good point on the cork color matching. I just assumed it would match. I'll ask for a swatch first. It seemed too good to be true as no one ever has cork matts.

Thanks for the picture and your interior looks great too. BTW, What model short shifter **** do you have? Mine came with an Aluminum Momo shifter from the PO. I think I prefer leather wrapped like yours.

BTW, even more OT but how do you like the sound of that original stereo? I have mine in a box in my basement. I have been tempted to put it back in. PO put a Pioneer in and it sounds good but doesn't go with the vintage at all. I've also got a Reno I found on CL for 10 bucks which I thought could be a good compromise between fidelity and aesthetics. I also am tempted to go with one of the Nakamichi options for a more modern sound but vintage'ish look. Can't make up my mind -- so I've left it alone -- but I like to tinker.

Back to the matts....I only pleasure drive the 928 on perfect days and don't park it anywhere but in my garage so no dirt ever gets in the car. In that sense I'm not worried about dirt. I don't hate the brown matt's I've got but the don't seem to make sense with the color's of the interior. I think I'm sold on Cork with cork binding and black 928 embroidery but the Cork has to be the right orange cork. I hope I found a source. Sounds like I might be disappointed though.

The Shifter is a cut down stock shifter covered with a GTS shift boot. Shifts nicer than my GTS with the "short throw" shifter installed.

The Stereo. Its not the original, but a blaupunkt from the 80's. This may date me, but when my dad owned the car, I had that radio in my 81 caprice classic back in 1987 in college. I bought a brand new "din" chassis Alpine for the caprice, then helped my dad install the blaupunkt in the 928. It's been there ever since. It sounded ok, but it's just a tape deck based radio. I upgraded the door panels to later model and was in the process of upgrading the speakers and eventually the head unit. As you said, the Nakamichi would look at home in a 79!!

As for for the mats. Don't just take my word for it, things may have changed and maybe there's a chance you can actually get mats that match the cork. If they can match it, I say go for it!!

I Really like the Petrol Blue cars w Cork interior!! Very cool combo!!

Cork interior is the coolest.

I'd like to re-do my interior with leather with a patina like the tip of this shoe.

Thanks for the info and compliment Chuck. I called the carpet customer service number but got voice mail. Will keep trying to get through and get a swatch sent. I'll let the board know how it turns out.

Side note, I just stumbled on a Nakamichi for sale from a fellow Rennlister and it's on it's way to me tomorrow. I'll be sure to post pictures when it's installed.

Sweet, i also have a cork interior. I've spoken to Paul about possibly doing my stitching in either white or black [considering my S4 is white]
