I really like the 16V cars. All of them, euro or not. Easier to work on. Less parts. Less cost. But they all seem to need something. And if you don't know the 928 from a maintenance perspective, both can be daunting.

Really like this car posted, and yours. Does seem like a performance bargain ( both of them ) once you expand the field of view past 928s.

That fresh, original paint no spoiler look is intoxicating.

I really hope this one, and yours, are solid as they look and get good homes.

Seems like one could make more money with less risk doing buy/resell of jeep wranglers than 928s.

There are many different "values." What a bank will loan on it; what the insurance company thinks; the Rennlist Cowboys; what you think; but most important is what a ready, willing, and able buyer gives you in cash, all else is conjecture. Rennlist may criticize your car, but we don't set the market. We are but a small percent of owners and a much smaller segment of the ebay market, which is also not the end all. You were selling at a inopportune time; location and the weather on the DAY a buyer looks at your car are factors.

I've been to a few car shows from the International New York Auto to 'pull up and pop the hood' and I've never seen an undercarriage painted in the manner you chose.

Many of the old ones no longer run simply lie dormant, in garage or under a tarp. Also when someone buys a $2,000-$4,000 "CAR" their expectations as well as the budget are often far, far less. So what if the A/C does not work and few 78-early 1980s Manual controls units do. Or it won't downshift into second most early 5 spds will not. And the 78-79 vacume door locks rarely still work. C I S Injection while simple in some respects has made many people baffled and has some expensive bits. Perhaps what holds down the resale is the fact that there are so many old beat up 928s which people for one reason or another still can not bring themselves to junk them,feel that they could be "saved".
Ten years ago one could buy a decent 79-80 928 for $2,000-3,000 I know because I bought three of them. Now 10 years later one could argue that S-4 cars have done well to hold a value higher than that !
I can not help but wonder where the new recruits to the 928 Cult are coming from and what drives that decision. Insome cases I believe it comes from the fact that they cannot afford / justify spending the money on a 911......
Human nature being what it is that explains the anti-911 bull**** so often posted as in I did not want one anyway "must have been sour grapes".
So will resale prices go higher? Maybe does it matter much not really. The costs to carry, insurance, repairs etc. add up quite quickly and make it real hard to make money with cars. And I have a real hard time with looking a photos of a car and concluding that it is a NICE car just about anything looks decent in pictures my old very brown 1980 not included. The 924 I recently bought for $900 is a RAT but looked pretty good in the photos I posted.
If you get some pleasure out of owning and driving a 928 that is all that matters who cares what OTHER people think it is WORTH unless your goal is to impress them....

Well, this '82 will be the cornerstone of my 928 collection. I don't even care what it looks like under the hood, I'm going to keep it closed most of the time anyways. I am going down to the bank now to get a $9100 car loan. Awesome, I'm so excited!

Well, there is by coincidence another one on ebay now, being as there are hungry early car buyers in the market. ( it actually never left the market )


Something makes me wonder if the 82 actually sold, though.
