Played with a c5 Z06 yesterday while in Sata ...actually at the end of walking a TL Acura, the Z06 joined in... we slowed a bit, then hit it from ~5500rpm in 2nd to near the top of 3rd. He pulled a car length after my immediate bog-shift to 3rd, but then his shift let me gain a smidge back until he ultimately slowly pulled to a little over 2 cars when we shut down. He gave a bit of a surprised nod and thumbs up, even though he clearly had me.

Point is there is a lot that goes into achieving the better side of the outcome, so numbers are clearly just a variable in the overall equation. If it makes the other guy scratch his head because the outcome was different than he expected, then that's a positive. Heck, I love cheating with an M6 or AMG on the onramp, by getting the jump when they check over their shoulder so it "looks like" they aren't pulling away from me after they step on it

You humbled him. Don't know the outcome if you had a side-by-side run, but you can bet he thought he was going to catch you and now thinks otherwise.

there is no doubt how much fun it is "humbling" far newer rides....but in straight line contests, there only is so much a well running stock 928 can do against machines 20+ years newer..... Vs on a road course where DRIVER counts for way more than HP by a wide margin.... the HUGE benefit of the 928 is its really easy to drive HARD at the track....it makes you look much better than you really are!!!

I don't care what it is.....I can pass the vast majority of cars at a DE....even in "advanced" group.... Ferraris, Vipers, Vettes other P-cars.....it takes a serious ride with a skilled driver to get around the bucket..... Typically the only "street" cars that can get away from me are GT3's.....and not by much....it takes $1,000's per second gained, per lap on the bucket.....nothing can touch it on a $-$ basis...no way...

I am reminded of my inability to keep up with my Skip Barber instructor at Laguna Seca when I was driving an E92 M3. He was driving......

A Mazda 3 coupe. Automatic transmission. Not the Mazdaspeed version.

Most of these so called "races" do not mean anything. Different skill levels and intentions. The 370z is a very capable car and I doubt a casual encounter would decide on the ranks.

Judging by how close a 350Z was to my old stock '86 5-speed, it seems to me that a 370Z would be just slightly faster than a stock S4. It is, after all, 10% lighter and has a similar power figure.

I had newer M5 sedan pass me and then cut in front of me yetserday just before a tight sweeping onramp to the beltway. I stayed off his 6 all the way until 120 and he made his exit...not too much of a sweat but I tell ya what the newer cars are getting faster..and quicker.

i wish i had his transmission though!

As long as you do not have to stop quickly, twice in a row.

Funny thing happened on the high(closed course road) today. Encountered one of these 370's. Hmm, sorry, walked him from 50-90. Wasn't much to be had there.

Last fall before I put the car away and for out it was missing lots of HP, I had a fun drive to work.

A 2011 camero decided to play with me which started around 80 mph.
He glued to the back of my car and pushed untill i want by 162 mph and then he backed out.

I am not sure if he could have blown by me or not but I think he should have been able to.

When I started my intake refresh/repairs I found both knock sensors cooked and I know the car was starting to miss with a bad plug or wire.
SOOO
with everything working right, a good port polishing, my new ignition and fuel maping and a 150 shot no2(on order.)

I think the next meeting may suprise him.

I can not wait to start playing with the laptop tuning

Those 928 s are some pretty good machines, and more so on a long run . But when we out at a track day my wife came by in her Infiniti M35S with every option Infiniti has on it and a full tank of gas. I talked her into letting me run it around for a session. Hey it would surprise some racers - and I aint that good. Made me think about gettting an auto transmission!

When her M56 gets here - it aint no race car but it sure can run for a big girl. Dust my 944 Turbo quick.

Hmm, street racing over 100 mph? I remember this old song that goes "My Maserati does 185. . ."
