Yeah, some people use that but they have severe limitations on how you can use your car. You have to declare a separate vehicle as your daily driver, and can't take the 928 to work, to the store, etc. In theory you are limited to driving it to "club events" or something like that.
When I asked they told me it had to be at least 25 years old but there are several companies, and some apparently don't have an age requirement.
Hagerty (and all other classic car insurances for that matter) won't let you get classic car insurance unless you have another car for daily driving - meaning every family member in your household with a driver license must have a separate car before you can get classic car insurance.
Also, when getting classic car insurance look for the mileage they will allow you put on a car per year. I think Hagerty wanted less then 3k per year, but were not really limiting in how and when you can use the car. There were a few insurers I called and they were limiting you to driving to club events only...
Note there is a HUGE difference between Agreed value and Stated value, be very clear on what you have. Plus agreed value is for a total loss....so at the option of the insurance company they might "fix" a heavily damaged car to avoid a full payout.
Using AAA here for my '81, '86.5 928 and '73 914. Agreed value 10k, 15k, 10k respectivley. Cost is $255/year. Cannot be daily driver and must drive less than 5k miles year. (these usually are driven less than 1k/yr )
No restrictions with Hagerty... Just cannot use it as your daily driver.
AO, when I checked with Hagerty, it was TERRIBLE! Maybe difference in states. They told me the car could ONLY be used for "CLUB EVENTS"...PERIOD! I was like, screw that! I had been with Leyland West at the time and was tired of dealing with the morons that didn't know the difference between a mile and kilometer and the annual odo form.
Now I am with JC Taylor and saving money! I just got the bill last week...agreed on values (above market I might add, but what my cars are worth TO ME!) and any fun use (no DD or work use or track events are covered) and all SEVEN of the street 928's total $1500/YEAR! NICE! Have not had a claim with them so no idea how they would be under those circumstances.
I have Hagerty on my 911. You may not drive to work or school. In theory this means even "occasionally". My agent there said if I used it once and a while to work on a nice day, it would be fine. But I doubt his word is legally binding... When they say they have "no restrictions" it means no mileage cap per year.
American Collectors Insurance through Geico is who I have. They ask you how much mileage you plan on driving, you have to have a daily driver besides the 928, and they used my daily driver liability limits as a basis for my policy. The higher the mileage and daily driver liability limits, the higher the premium. Excludes racing events.
