Kicking myself! Knew I should have said only if it was 928 related!!
No problem, can definitely help, just not with that outdoor crapper!
Went to start the shark a couple hours ago and its a no start, ugh. Im hoping its a fuel pump relay cuz normally I smell gas (its a euro, runs hot and has no restrictions). Most of my R-6028's are old-style (yes, there is a new 1985 version relay!!) and busted up, so Im going to head out to the Chantilly A-Zone and get a new one to try out in the morning.
If that doesn't work, Ill be heading over in the truck anyway. I dont know anything about working on these damb sexy cars!! So, afternoon will work for me, let me know what time, hopefully way before rush hour, cars out of Tysons suck!

I pulled the horn relay, so I could swap with the fuel pump relay, I thought that was smart. And then I started trying the fuel pump relay and the shark would try to start on its own!!? (I kept pulling the cover off). I just realized I was pulling the starter relay, sheessh. Its XVI NOT XIV!

Check fuse 42 if good.
Pull relay XX and jumper pins 30 & 87 (look at the bottom of the relay to see which pins are 30&87).
Turn the ignition on to the start position and go back to see if you hear the fuel pump. Do you have an internal pump also?
If not running turn the ignition switch off. remove the fuel pump cover (right rear side infront of the bumper under the fuel tank, 2 - 8mm nuts, pull the cover back towards the bumper to remove).
Need a volt meter to check and see if you have voltage to the pump. Will see two wires off of the side of the pump (pump is behind the filter). May need to pull the rubber covers off to get to the connections, Brown wire is ground, other is the power side.
Turn the ignition back on and see if you have voltage at the pump, if no voltage fine a good body ground and re-check the power side. Record the reading. Voltage at pump not running, pump bad.
No voltage - bad ground, or drop the CE pannel and check the fuse and relay connections. Check for power at fuse 42 and then pin 87 of the relay.
I'm sure a search will give you a more detailed procedure.
Good luck!

Beerfish, let me know if an '87 S4 fuel pump will work - if so I'll look for my "spare" tonight and bring it tomorrow. Also, if anyone coming is planning an intake refresh and wants to pick up good intake/cam cover cores at a reasonable price, PM me and I'll bring the ones I have.

Disconnect power
Reverse leads on fuel pump
Disconnect tank fuel feed hose (to pump), clamp with protected vneedle-nose vise grips.
Reconnect power
Turn over ignition to get the pump running in reverse.
I the pump runs, reverse procedure to button back up.
(PS. Glenn, I have stuff for you from Landseer)

I tried all the jumper ideas, but I doubt I did them right. Unfortunately for me, I dont have, nor do I know how to use, a voltmeter, but if I get shocked or see spark it must be good. No shocks yet!
Took the cover off the pump/filter. Played with the two wires, no smell of fuel, tapped with my knuckle several times, fuel.
Started right up!!! Good ol Beerfish! Just needs me to stress a little before she is willing to roll! Hopefully she is just as happy tomorrow morning. :-)) Now to try to find a good pump online somewhere.
Thanks for all the advice and tips, seriously looking forward to tomorrow!

Hey guys....
thank you all SO MUCH! what a great time and as a first time for me at one of these GTGs I have to say I couldnt have hung out with a nicer bunch of guys. I definitely owe a couple of you (you know who you are) a few rounds for the amazing work on getting my timing belt retensioned. very cool to see how it all works and takes a little of the fear of actually working on this car away.
I cant tell you the thrill I felt on actually being able to floor it again without the dread of that damn light coming on! AHHHH , I have my car back again!!!
Chris, thanks again for putting this on and being the consummate host. Looking forward to Frenzy and hanging out in the future.
