Just spoke to the owner. His grandfather bought the car new in AZ. He died 8 years ago, the grandmother had it until she died recently.

Owner says he has the original documentation of the car, and he's going to email it to me. I'll post it when I get it.

 

What a great car. According to the guy selling it for the owner, it has its marks and scars...guessing front and rear bumper covers need repainting at the very least...common issue, especially with early metallic paint cars. Not sure what else he might have been referring to. Love the car though!

LOL! Just can't help myself...when I see a truly good 928 that has a very bright future and especially when it is a one owner car, I can't help but hope it goes to a good, worthy and deserving home! LOL!

 

I hear ya. But 8 grand for an 80? It does look nice though.

I guess I could try to get 2-3 or sucker some fool into 3-4 for my POS 82 and suck up the rest to have a "good" OB.

I got an email from the "middle" man but never bothered to contact the actual seller.

It does look like a very nice car but I can't justify paying that for an 80.

 

Just the middle man for me too. On the cost/price, I wouldn't sell my '81 for $8k! It would take at least $9500 to get that one from me... Probably nicer than this car in many ways though.

Why is $8000 too much for this car???? Do you know what 8K will buy you in the used car market? A 8 year old Civic. If I could find a SUPER SWEET early car that was original, clean , Pasha interior, lots of history...I would trade my S4 for it in a heart beat. And my S4 is pretty nice with history. That's the truth.

 

1980 Fuel price, $.90 per gallon! I just paid $4.49 for a gallon of Gasahol swill. That's exactly 5 times more than what it was in 1980, does that mean the 928 would be $200,000 if still made today?

Do the math... If the 928 was still being made and was still the top of the line Porsche as it was during its production run then YES IT WOULD BE OVER $200k TODAY! It would have over 600HP and its target would be the Ferrari 599... This is not just my opinion either...look at all the magazines that have written about the return of the "928" to the product line and at some things Porsche has even hinted at itself.

The GTS's were (when just optioned to an average level) around $90k some were over $100k (quite a few of them) and the LAST US GTS was $189k! So, yea a 2011 928 would be 600+ HP, over 200 mph, 0-60 in under 4 sec and cost over $200k, you can bet on it.

As for nice early cars... ANY very nice 928 with history, good paint, interior and mechanicals should be an $8k car w/o batting an eye and this seems like it fits that bill. I can tell you this, you could not buy ANY of my 928's for $8k!

 

You may spend 50% more at the pump than a Honda, Toyota, Nissan owner...but its a V8 porsche...NOT an econo box that looks like everything else on the road. These new vehicles only get about 10 to 15 miles per gallon better gas milage....and that will cost you 22K to 38K to buy one ( brother has been shopping ) ....I can buy a lot of gas with 20K in my pocket.

 

All I am saying is a NICE early low horsepower auto still has value in my mind.

 

I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything, I was asking peoples opinion. So maybe 4.50 a gallon isn't that bad, in the whole scheme of things.

 

I don't think anyone thinks your an smart ***. There just more appreciation out there for nice early cars than you may of thought....that's all.
