Clearly a rennlister (mentions it too) and the car is stunning....I remember talk of this car being on the "rotisserie" being restored years ago...... Just looking at the pics I would say its an extremely fair price for a well sorted zero issue 928.....

That's a hell of a nice example. He even backs it. If in the Bay Area it's probably the closest you can get to buying CPO 928.

(Add the S4 suspension and brakes along with a Porken chip...)

If he hasn't sold it by then, he should bring it to Sharks in the Park.

WTF !!!!

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/2343930175.html

If this guy can wrench like he can write, this car is F'NG AWESOME!!!!

Moderators, Please figure out how to put that write-up into a "stickie".

That is as an awesome summery of these cars.

That could be a very nice car for someone, or it could be a total POS!

Anyone know this guy? Is he for real?

Heck, his internet skills and web site are worth the asking price of the car!

This is a car that has been gone through from top to bottom. The body is straight and much of it original pain. Everything works and will not a show car the car is in excellent condition. A little push and it could be in concourse condition. The color is white gold. The body has 150K miles, the engine 90K and it has been driven 4400 miles since reconditioning to sort out all those things that plague Porsche 928s. The car feels and drives like new.

Is that what makes you think it's a RLr?

This is Pod Guy's car. Not sure if he is still active here. I had a deposit on this car in this condition in late 2006. The price at that time was $8500. The purchase was contingent upon a PPI by Hi-Tec Automotive in San Rafael. The PPI came back that they believed a slight oil leak was the result of a bad head gasket. The owner disputed that, but being that I am 1000 miles away, I withdrew my deposit and kept shopping. The owner was very professional in dealing with me and returning my deposit.

I never saw the car in person, but was going to buy it based on the description that is linked here. It doesn't appear to have changed (why would it since he had just refurbished everything?).

A couple of things to note: the interior was brown and has been dyed black. He says so in his write up. It has the gold anodized wheels, which are period correct, but something I would have swapped out. The timing belt work was done back then, so almost five years. Depending on how you feel about time on a belt, and whether or not the owner has replaced it, it may be due for a new belt.

If I'm not mistaken the seller is Dan the Pod Guy, a long-time Rennlister.

EDIT - looks like Matt beat me.

Dan (pod guy) was rebuilding that car for me over several years, a few years back. I was going to buy it and give it to my wife when it was completed. I paid Dan installments for the work along the way.

Dan knows 928's better than anyone I have ever met. I could NEVER have swapped out engines in my '78 without his help and guidance (that is his tilter in my avatar). He has about 30 cars' worth of parts at his place, so if a certain part from a certain year was needed, he had it. I used many of his parts in my engine swap. Hell, he even made be a completely new engine harness!

He is a guy who does not cut corners. In addition, while he was restoring this car, it was understood that it was to be for my wife (read: dependable). He took the extra care to do things exactly right. The deal didn't work out because my wife pissed me off so badly, that not only did I not want to buy another car for her, I wanted to shed assets instead... thinking I was headed for a divorce. But that is another story.

This is when leperboy put the deposit on the car, and then backed out. I saw the oil leak personally, it was not what Hi-Tec said it was.

I know that car well. It is a top-notch automobile. If anyone wants a 32v OB auto, THIS IS THE CAR!

P.S. I have a set of 5/16" rear spacers that were for this car. If a rennlister buys it I will send them to you for free.

I maybe in the market. Oh my. This is a hard decision. So, what next? Do I get a PPI even though people seem to know the car? I am actually really figuring this out in my head. Seems a bit low at 5600 for a restoration.

I personally would take Dan's word for it. He is an extremely ethical person, in my experience. I spent probably 20-25 afternoons over at his place, working on 928's till it got dark. I never heard him mention that he restores them to make a buck. He just appreciates the car, and enjoys working on them.

If I wanted a PPI, HE is the one I would want to do it! The guy simply knows these cars inside and out. He is familiar with their shortcomings, and those get addressed when he works on a car. Seriously, I don't know anyone, anywhere that I would trust more with a 928.

It is actually sort of sad to see it up for sale. I kinda always dreamed I might end up buying it after all...

I know and trust Dan. It seems like the only question with this car is the supposed head gasket leak. A potential buyer should ask Dan about that and judge for himself, but if Dan says it's not leaking, I would believe him. Dan has more knowledge about 928s than anyone else I know and he is skilled in all aspects of car care and restoration.

Spoke with the owner last night. Seems like he knows 928s very well. Very nice to talk to and shared same information that is on his website. Seemed very honest and easy to talk with. If I could sell my car for a few grand I would be very interested in this car as a step up.

Quick Reply: VERY nice 85 auto for sale!!!
