What does it mean if wax is coming out of my coil
I noticed a wax substance in my ignition coil cover on my 82 Euro S that has been running like crap since I have had it running. Is this a sign of a bad coil and what could have caused it? I have the original coil but it has a hollow weep hole(guess wax comes out there too?)

That's the wrong coil. Made for a basic 12V primary. Your car has higher primary voltage, so the insulation is overheating and nreaking down. Get the correct coil and be happier in the long run.

Thanks. I'll get another. The new coil came with the car when I bought it last May. This may take care of my "no power running like crap problem". I guess the black coil in the picture is bad too because of the weep hole being open?

with the correct coil your ignition system should work perfectly. Make sure that the 2 resistors are also installed on the inner fenderwell

I have an 89' S4 that was pretty much withdrawn from the road (and nearly back on it) because of leaking coils. My connections corroded green at each coil wire. Just what the hell are in these? I thought they perhaps were oil filled. Anyway, any idea? (new ones already fitted - hurray for me... Cranking it up in T - 2 days... Wish me luck...)

You have CIS don't you Gunar, be sure to get the right coil. contrary to what Dr. Bob is saying the primary voltages for CIS CDI ignition systems is low, The voltages measured at the coil are weird numbers but apparently that is the way it should be, you need to have the correct coil to work with these.
Sorry I can not be more enlightening but I don't remember the numbers and the parameters that they had to fall within.

Be sure to check the two resistors because the factory coil runs on less than 12 volts....if you give it full 12V it can boil the oil and EXPLODE.....no fire or flame but sticky tar like oil all over BTDT...It is quite possible that who ever installed the "wrong" coil also "fixed" the wiring to give it 12 volts.

Brad, why the ignition change? Electromotive is a wasted spark firing twice as often as needed which gives the coils less time to build up which I believe is not an advantage.
