It's a sunny day and I'm heading off up the east coast for a drive on some nice twistie roads ... some time on the coast .. and then back home. I'll take some more pics along the way and post soon.

Cool, well done on the purchase, good to know a 928 enthusiast picked it up and it'll be properly taken care of and worked on. I was considering it in mid-January, but decided not to buy it - if it had no sunroof, or I'd only had one 928, I'd have jumped on it.

FYI. its actually the last RHD 5-speed GTS built by the factory

Hope Dave doesn't mind (I'm sure he won't, he's out driving it.. if he hasn't been sidetracked by polishing it )..

Its option codes are:

It has a semi-full leather interior - the dash/console/door pulls are the usual vinyl, but everything else is green leather (headliner, interior quarters, door cards, rear console, armrest cassette holder).

Here's some more pics of the interior and engine bay:

Sorry I almost sounded rude in asking that question. It's just that I am very green with 928s even though I've owned quite a number of Porsches. The 928 was a childhood dream car, and during my late teens the GTS was released and it was a bit of a wet dream if you know what I mean. Now I can afford to buy and upkeep one, I thought I should live out the dream. I can live with the auto version, ideally I would like manual though. Do you know who in Melb I can go to who are 928 experts? There is an auto one on carsales for awhile now so maybe I should just pull the trigger, but I really have no idea what a good GTS is vs a not so good one.

Wow. Stunning car.

Against the backdrop of trees and stuff, the car is almost camouflaged.

From what I've heard, that auto amazon green GTS on Carsales is not registered, and likely has something expensive preventing it from being rego'd, otherwise the current owner would have it fixed and increase its value. Its also been for sale for a loooong time.

Don't buy any 928 without a solid PPI from a 928-capable independent mechanic, and especially a suspicious auto one

It was registered until maybe 3-4 months ago. I have been watching the ad for awhile now. Yeah, it is suspicious, which is the issue. And the reason why I ask for a 928 expert in Melbourne is so that I know who to go to for a PPI. I am not sure if the factory dealership still have much expertise in 928s given that these cars tend to go to specialist. I know certainly that is the case with older 911s, and it is easy to find a 911 expert.

I went to Orford on the east coast of Tasmania today. The car is running better and stronger now that it’s away from big city driving. I really should have spent the day starting on cleaning the underside, suspension, engine and interior …. but it was a fine day … and there are some great roads around here.

Here’s a pic of the underside. All it needs is detailed cleaning … the undertrays and spoiler were intact!

Here’s the view from one of the coast roads ..

Another beach view from at the end of an uphill climb …

The seats are looking better already after a first clean with leather cleaner. Next step is to clean a few more times, touch up some creases and scuffing of the piping, and then condition to soften them up.

The rest of the interior is good, with the exception of some scuff marks to the trim either side of the right rear seat (from repeated stowing of a briefcase I think), which I’ll be fixing along with the other minor scuff/wear points.

About to head back home …

I’ll post some more pics once I’ve done preliminary interior and engine clean up.

Thanks Hilton .. I checked every other VIN detail but hadn't noticed that. All this car needs is some TLC ... and it'll be back to the condition it should be in.

You're the first person I thought might consider it, but I figured you probably wouldn't go further because of the factors you mentioned ... luckily I was right.

It's so odd seeing a GTS w/o a passenger side airbag. I notice your gear lever is taller than most, any ideas why? Do you south earthers need longer shifters?

I was saving this pic for Greg Nettles .... but ... you've given me the cue early ..

It was because of the view out the passenger window Sean
