Ideas for Antenna replacement for 1980 ?
My son's 1980 is in need of a antenna. the old power unit is completely corroded inside and non working. Is there a NON power antenna available that will mount and trim out in std area and be easier to find???
Thanks, Dean

I would have mentioned it if I had known this situation, but in retrospect you should have filled in the hole and then put a "shark fin" antenna on the roof in the same location that '89 and up cars run them. Since that didn't happen, I'd suck it up and replace it with a functioning antenna like it had... Hell, someone here probably has one sitting around they would DONATE to this project! Come on guys, who can help Dean out here?!

I see where they are available for $80 new. Not a bad price but more than I can spend with so many other parts needed to finish it out. I don't want people thinking I am looking for free hand outs here. This is for my son...not me or my car. I was really thinking there may be a NON powered regular mast that could be retrofitted from another car. Has anyone done one like that?
In retrospect...I should of filled the hole. But that's water under the bridge. I had no idea the unit was trashed inside before. The radio was aftermarket and a cheapo that didn't work to begin with so I just didn't know the unit itself was non operational. That's my story and I'm sticking too it.

I just replaced my broken (non-retracting) antenna (someone finally snapped off the mast).
My parts guy got me a Hirschmann universal automatic antenna through WorldPac. P# HIT AUTA 2040. Also has the numbers 921 738-003.
Did a little mix and match using the old textured bezel rather than the new shiny bezel and stripped the pig tail from the old antenna and spliced it onto the new antenna so that I could just plug it into the harness with the existing connector. Worked like a charm.
I think it was about $65.00. Of course it's made in China.
