If you really plan to work on the car yourself, as you said previously, then you will be spending a lot of time on here reading and asking questions. It's possible, but very few newbies to the 928 world get by on just the manuals, and most of those probably have a lifetime of working on cars (professionally or as a hobby) behind them...

The factory workshop manuals were written for trained professional Porsche mechanics to use. They assume a bunch of prior knowledge and experience and are not a step by step how to do it manual. There are however many great write-ups by members of this forum with detailed photos and instructions. The 928 ican be a tough car to learn on.....

1+ EspritS4s & James Bailey
As a newb I can tell you these guys are giving you some really good advice. What they are not telling you is that this community is very supportive with helping folks (especially newbies like you and I) out of a bad spot, advice you cannot get from a manual but from folks who do this every day (Greg Brown, Greg Nettles, SeanR just to name a few) as professional mechanics. There are great 928 parts specific vendors here from the West Coast, Mid West to the East Coast. Call them and tap thier knowledge. Rennlist is also a great communication hub for events and GTG in your area. Meet some local 928ers here and you will be surprised on how much you will learn.
The Rennlist membership has been well worth it.

Book mark, http://dwaynesgarage.norcal928.org/ . Dwayne does great writeups with pictures.

Really? I did download a section of them and they didn't really seem that hard to follow. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, "how hard can it be?"

Believe it or not, there is a lot of learning that has happened since those manuals were last updated. The good thing is that you don't actually have to join to access all the info here, many people will encourage you to though.

Before you start working on it you may want to start a swear jar, It's a nice way of saving your change and relieving stress from wrenching. Good Luck!

Once he replaces or attempts to replace the drivers side door handle mechanism he'll realize the value of this forum and the depth of knowledge available by the members.

I'm a newbie and basically no jack so far. I'm lucky to have an Ace 928/944 Mechanic Dude nearby for guidance. Next week my 89 928S4 getting a multi-organ transplant(Torque Tube rebuild, Porkentioner, PKlamp, rear CV Boots, Transmission reservoir, trans Shifter Spring and Motor Mounts) and other things as they present themselves. Hopefully she and I will make it through the operation. I can't wait to dig in, accumulate scar tissue and wisdom from the Master Ray. Pics and narrative will follow.

I would have joined anyway because this is the best $20 you can spend, but I could not stand not being able to see thread pics as a non-member. After I found rennlist , one day of that was all I could stand.

There may be or should be a whole thread or ten on "Deficiencies of the WSM." Pro, says they are fixing the electricals on his car, so I'm guessing he will be looking at the wiring diagrams at some point.

Search is your friend.

Yes lol, the whole cooling system wiring is being re-done. It is an aftermarket rad apparently, (Devek?) and has the little controller box at the front of the engine bay, i had no clue where to start and now it is being wired properly so it is fully connected to the ignition, so that when you turn it off the fans don't keep running and drain the battery. Although i'm sure there's plenty of other things that are going to drain the battery that need attending to.
