Default throttle body springs

On re-assembly of the throttle body I find that my '88 S4 differs from Dwaynes '87 car that he used for the Intake refresh project.

Does anyone have a description how the springs are attached with the newer config?

[QUOTE=the flyin' scotsman;8461913]thx Zebedee (longtime no speak Garth, hope you're well)

Cheers Malcolm .... all is well - trust the same for you: had the C4S out briefly two days ago, the 928 should come alive by Thurs, gauging by the optimistic weather forecast. It has been a cool spring, delaying the end of hibernation.
G'luck with the springs - If I had a S4 TB in front of me, I might be of some help - but it was 4 years ago that I last had an '88 apart.

I believe I have it. Just needed a bigger pair of pliers and more grunt.

Appreciate comments if this looks correct:

I think that's right.

Here's mine, before I took it apart (click the pic for a bigger version):

thx Ed......interesting that Porsche changed the design so much between '87 and newer cars.

Wondering if they were concerned at all of the throttle plate not closing quick enough on decel?

For those following along be careful with eyes and fingers.....these springs are strong!

Im the guy that removed -1- spring..the inner one to be precise because I was tired of shin splints driving the car.

Made enough of a difference, I dont get splits or sciatic nerve issues anymore..still plenty stiff, considering all of the other springs that are at work against the assembly.

Hi Malcolm,
Your assembly is looking good! Here's some pics of the '88 when I did its intake before I disassembled and cleaned the linkage. Looks like your configuration matches it.

Threadsurrection time!

I just got the car back with the tranny rebuilt. The shift points are dead on and everything smooth. However, the throttle seem so stiff. I feel my calf muscles building in my right leg and basic acceleration is work...like braking without power brakes is the best way to describe it.

Is there any place to lube/adjust the tension? Again-don't want to mess with Bowden, Throttle, Cruise, Pedal as it is balanced nicely. Cruise kicks in and holds the correct speed as well...

Resurrecting: Speedtoys - I found a reference to removing 1 spring in a 2015 article by New Hill Garage and now your post. Any issues ? I believe my cables are all in good shape but would love to have the pedal ease up a bit.

wow, 8 years ago, how time flies.

I cannot comment on removing a spring but the throttle body rebuild including cleaning and refitting all the springs does do wonders to the operation. So much so it hasnt been apart since with no intention or need.

Bumping to look for an answer before I reinstall the throttle body. Looking for thoughts on removing the inner spring from the TB on an 86.5.

Anyone ?

I had no issues, and it removed some nerve pain I was experiencing at the time being a tad lighter.
